“Surprise us!” I shout after her.
I tell Rob, sorry Stewart, to take a seat and he does. “So what am I to call you?” I ask him.
“Just keep to Rob, no confusion then, and thanks again for allowing me to play the piano.”
“Oh it's no bother, you do have talent. I feel very lucky to have you here with me, I mean playing with me, for me, for us,” I sputter out. I can feel my face burning. He starts to laugh, throwing his head back.
“Hey, stop flirting with the staff,” I hear Jayne say as she places our drinks down. “Sex on the Beach. Only I can do that,” she says giggling at her own joke, while winking and arm bumping Rob, who is still laughing while I'm sitting here mortified.
I take a long drink, looking at him over the top of my glass, wondering what he is thinking. We both pretend she’s said nothing, and I look at Rob to carry on with what he was about to say.
“Thanks, it is my passion amongst other things,” he says, grinning at me.
“Umm, what other things might they be,” Jayne says back all flirty, then looks at me.
“Jay,” I scold.
Rob starts to laugh again. “You want me to show you?”
As I say no, she says yes.
Rob winks at me: “Later,” and with that he gets up from his chair, walks to the door and unbolts it. He turns to look at us. “Night ladies. Abigail, come lock up,” and he walks out the door.
I stare at Jayne. “Jay, what are you doing?” I ask her.
“I told you I'm not with Ian any more, I want a bit of harmless fun.”
“What happened, you seemed so happy when I last saw you?”
“We were until I found him by the pool with some slapper.”
“You're joking, right.”
“Nope, no joke. You're lucky I'm here and not locked up in a cell. I've never been so fucking angry, especially after…” She looks across the room in deep thought. “It doesn't matter.”
“Like fuck it doesn’t matter, now spill.”
“You sure, I mean you have things to do?”
I nod my head, indicating for her to carry on. “You're my best friend, I'm here for you. You know that, right Jay?”
She looks at me with sad eyes then down to her glass, picking it up she takes a sip and proceeds. “I finished work early. I was meant to be meeting him, Ian, at his moms, she'd invited us to dinner. But instead of going there I went home. I called out but no one answered me so I thought he had already left. I went and had a shower, I knew I had plenty of time so I thought I'd put something nice on, slap a bit of makeup on, you know, make the effort. Anyway, when I went into the lounge I noticed clothes sprawled across the floor that weren't mine. As I turned the patio door caught my eye, and it was open. My gut sank. I just knew, so I opened the door wide and walked out. When I got to the end of the wall by the pool, there they were in all their glory, fucking. I stood for a few seconds, letting my mind process what I was seeing.”
“Oh my gosh, Jayne, I'm so sorry.”
“Don't be, he did me a favour. Well, I walked over and pulled my phone out and started to record them. I know what he's like. He'd tell everyone it was me just like the last time, so I took some proof.”
“Fuckin Hell Jay, I'm so sorry. What an absolute wanker. You know you can stay as long as you want don't you or at your mom's whatever you choose? I'll be right by you for support.” I shake my head, “Like last time? hang on, I’m confused.
He's done this before and I'm just finding out now?”
I pick my drink up and take a swig. Jayne continues telling me what happened that day. I'm gutted for her, I am.
“Yep, he did this a few months ago, but this time I can't forgive him, I just can't do it again, I'm so done with him.”
“Did he say anything to you?”
Jayne starts to laugh. “Nope, nothing, he didn’t see me until it was too late and then he was up and running after me, saying all the bull shit he thinks I want to hear.’ I'm sorry it meant nothing, I love you’. So I replied, 'What she fell and you just happened to be lying there and she fell on top of you while sticking your dick inside her???'.”
