“Okay, then I'll sort us out,” Jayne says, as she makes her way into the kitchen.
I shrug my shoulders. “I did ask. If people want to make silly remarks then that's on them.”
“I never said a word,” Jayne says, defending herself.
Rob plonks his arse down next to me on the sofa, putting his hand on my leg giving it a squeeze. Owen sits on the chair. I enjoy the silence for a bit, until Jayne brings over coffee for her and Owen and a plate of toast. “Knock yourself out,” she places them on the table. “Did you want a drink Rob?”
“I will a bit later,” chuckling to himself as he pinches my last half piece of toast.
“Hey!” I slap his hand away. “If you wanted some you should have said.”
“I did. You just…”
I cut him off. “No you never, you know darn well you were talking about sex, and so don't try to kid a kidder.” I stand up and go to the kitchen, putting my cup and plate into the bowl. As I walk back towards my room, I say: “I'm off for my shower, see you all in a bit,” as I close the door behind me.
Once showered I sit on the bed brushing my hair. I'm still seething. I can't believe that he comes out with all these remarks about us, he might think it's a joke but I don't, we're not kids.
A small knock comes on my door. I shout come in as I adjust my towel. Rob opens the door and walks in.
“I'm sorry Smithy, if I caused you any embarrassment, that wasn't my intention. It was just a laugh you know, I would never say anything like that in front of anyone else. And never about our sex life, not like that.”
“It's ok, I just feel out of sorts, I know you never meant no harm. I don't have a clue what's going on with me lately. I've been up and down, snappy and moody, but what I will say is no more sex in the bar. I mean as nice as it was, it was foolish and we could have got caught.”
Rob starts to laugh. “What are they going to do, sack you?”
I start to giggle as he pushes me back on the bed, opening my towel and straddling me.
Chapter Seventeen
“So tonight's the night then, how are you feeling man?” Owen asks Rob.
“Bricking it to be fair, you?”
“Nar, I'm really looking forward to it, it should be fun,” Owen tells him.
I sit here at the bar listening to both of them chatting. Tonight is the night. It was one of the things that was voted in, in one of our discussions. I'm not sure now though if I should have just said no from the start. I'm nervous. It seemed like a good idea when mentioned. It should be okay. My insecurity comes back when I think about it, I mean if he was going to stray he could have - he's had plenty of opportunities. I think it's just the thought of another woman ogling him, and throwing themselves at him, but he's mine. I need to get a grip of myself.
I look at my watch, just as Jayne puts a cuppa on the bar in front of me.
“I see you have the best seat in the house.”
I snigger, “Of course I do, but I've saved you the seat at my side.”
“You know too,” she says laughing. “Paul just rang..”
I cut Jay off, “He's not rung in sick has he?”
She shakes her head at me. “No. What makes you think that?”
“He's late,” I tell her as I look at my watch.
“No he ain't, it's only quarter to eight.”
“I know that, but he's normally here by now.”
“Chill, he rang to ask if we would like a burger, I told him to bring in seven. One for each of us.”
“Oh,” I say, “I've got to get a grip of myself. What the fuck is wrong with me Jay, talk about being paranoid or what.”
