Page 22 of Deadly Desires

“Yeah, Kayden, just some asshole that touched what wasn’t his to touch.”

Kayden looks over at Melody who is now so shocked her mouth hangs open.

“Nice to meet you, Melody,” says Kayden, holding out his hand.

Schooling her features, she reaches out her hand. “Hi. It’s a pleasure to meet you as well.”

Kayden chuckles under his breath. “Anything I can get the two of you?”

“Nah, man, we’re good,” I reply. I know Kayden is probably itching to get back to whatever woman was probably sucking his cock.

“Alright, people, let’s get back to the party,” Kayden shouts and everyone starts to cheer. The DJ starts back up and it’s like nothing ever happened.

I grab Melody’s hand and continue to pull her through the crowd. I caught a glimpse of Brooke when all hell broke loose, so I make my way towards her location with Melody in tow.

Reaching Brooke on the second floor balcony, I tug Melody in front of me and circle my arms around her, placing my chin on her head. “Let’s get you two home, huh?”

Brooke rolls her eyes. “Jax, you know there is only room for two in your car. Why don’t you take Melody home, and when I’m done here I’ll have Kayden bring me to her house.”

Brooke looks at Melody with pleading eyes. She must have met someone tonight. Interesting. I look over at Melody to see what she wants to do. “Are you sure you’ll be alright, Brooke?” she asks.

“Oh, I’ll be fine. All the guys my brother hires always look after me. Don’t worry, I won’t be far behind you.”

“Ok, if you think so.” Melody reaches over and gives Brooke a hug. “I’ll see you soon then. Be safe!”

“You too.” She waggles her eyebrows at Melody before looking pointedly my way. I pretend I don’t see the exchange.

“Alright, time for me to get Melody home. See ya tomorrow, lil sis. Don’t forget we have family dinner tomorrow.”

We wave bye to Brooke and make our way through the crowd once more. As we get to the entrance, I wave over the security and let them know we are ready to leave. He uses his earpiece to notify the valet that I’m ready to leave. It’s nice having connections to the hottest club in the city. As we are waiting, I check my phone and notice ten missed calls from Franklin. Why would he be calling so much?

Melody looks at me with concern in her eyes. “Umm Jax, I think something is wrong. My alarm from the security system went off about an hour ago, and since then I’ve gotten alerts continuously.”

I have a bad feeling about this. It’s probably why Franklin was calling so much…

“It’s OK. We’ll head there right away.” I grab her chin and make her look at me. “Everything is going to be OK, do you hear me? We will deal with this together.”

“Thanks, Jax.”

Once the security guard confirms the car has been brought up, he opens the door for us. “Have a nice night, Mr. Stonewell.”

I open the door for Melody and guide her down into the bucket seat of my McLaren.

Time to get my little sparrow home and see what awaits us.

We zip through traffic and I notice the way that Jaxon drives like he’s a professional, zig zagging around cars effortlessly. Oddly enough, I don’t feel unsafe. It comes as a surprise. Maybe it’s because I’m so trusting of this man before me or that I know he would never intentionally hurt me, but whatever it is, I can’t get enough of it. It’s addicting.

As we round the corner to my street, the night is illuminated with red and blue flashing lights. Dread sinks into my stomach. What happened now? We pull to a stop in my driveway; the only clear spot to park with all the police vehicles everywhere. We exit the car and are immediately greeted by a sheriff who, judging by his appearance, may be in his late fifties and probably close to retirement.

“Good evening, young lady. Are you Melody Harper?”

“Yes, this is my house. What’s going on?”

“Well, someone tripped the alarm in your place. The inside has been ripped to shreds. I have to ask, is there anyone that would want to hurt you?”
