“Hey, don’t you dare poke me with your cock,” I snap, hopping forward to give him some space.
“You might like it,” he jokes, amusement clear in his voice even as his rum punch scent grows thicker and deeper with lust. Dude better get it together and fast.
“Keep that monster to yourself. We don’t want to scare away the tiny cheerleader,” Fox says, clapping him on the shoulder loudly before sliding up beside me to help keep Ty out of view. As it always does, Fox’s spring rain scent calms my soul and helps me find a bit of chill. Breathing deeply, I take a few more hits of it to rein in my natural dominance. Luckily, right as the omega reaches us.
Although her body language reads pure sass—shoulders back, chin up, arms on her rounded hips—my innate awareness of her allows me to see the anxiety dancing in her guileless eyes. And holy fuck, are they amazing. Silver rimmed in blue. My heart stutters as I tumble into their depths. At this moment, she could ask for any damn thing, and I’d give it to her.
My nostrils flare, trying valiantly to catch her scent, but nothing besides the fresh air and turf wafts my way. The grass makes my nose itch, and I hold back a grimace, not wanting to give her the wrong idea. Damn it!
“How can we help you?” I ask, stepping forward as an invisible string pulls me closer. Completely ignoring her personal bubble, I move in, watching smugly as her pulse flutters and she bites her lower lip.
She cranes her neck to look up at me, eyes widening as her pupils blow when she catches my dark chocolate scent swirling around us. She gasps, jumping back quickly.
No running, little prey.
“And what are you doing tonight?” Ty pipes up from behind me, a happy grin on his face as he pulls me back. A warning growl rips harshly from my throat. The sound, filled with dominance, causes the rest of the team to move away collectively.
My inner Alpha is not happy to be tugged away from his growing obsession. Pack or not, Ty’s a hair’s breadth away from being beaten to a fucking pulp. “Chill, man,” he whispers, but there’s no submission in his tone, and it’s barely enough to appease me.
The little omega swallows and my cock bobs in response, begging to be released, and its insistence only gets worse when she opens her pretty pink lips to speak.
“You’re on my field,” she breathes out so quietly I couldn’t have heard her if we were any further apart.
“Pretty sure this is my field, princess,” I grumble, trying to goad her but unsure of why. It works, though. Her jaw clenches, and she folds her arms over her stomach, barely suppressing the desire to stomp her foot.
“I’m no princess, and this most certainly is not your field. My team has forty-five minutes left to practice before this becomes ‘your field’”. Her hands flap wildly in the air now as she tosses up air quotes. So. Fucking. Cute.
Unable to stop it, a delighted laugh rolls from my chest, and holy fuck, does that piss her off even more. Vivi’s arms go back around her perfect belly, and she glares daggers at me. My goal was to get the pretty omega to notice me—well, objective complete. But I still need to know what she smells like, and my inner beast pushes me hard to rile her further.
“Ya, we let your team practice on it, little princess,” I taunt her again. “But that’s only because we’re nice guys. But right now, we need the field so you can either share like a good girl or get out.”
The tips of her ears turn bright red, and anger flashes in her eyes, causing me to want to crush her against my chest so hard. Fox steps out from behind me, and I can sense that he wants to make nice with her, so I give him a warning growl—ensuring he doesn’t interfere. My best friend narrows his eyes and gives a little shake of his head, telling me to cut it out, but I’m not ready. And a second later, I get exactly what I had been aiming for.
“My name is Vivi, not princess,” she seethes. Stepping toward me, she pokes me in the chest. “And we’re athletes who deserve the space. Just. Like. You. Get off MY field before I tell management about your behavior.”
Her anger makes her scent impossible to control, and it rolls over me and my pack like a tidal wave. A damn tsunami that threatens to take my sanity as it crashes over me. The scent of perfectly baked cupcakes with chocolate frosting. Deep. Rich. Mouthwatering.
And Mine.
Mate.
Chapter Four
Vivi
Marching toward the three enormous, sexy-as-sin Alphas was intimidating enough. Keeping myself from perfuming and slicking in front of them was even harder. But standing close to them and keeping my omega at bay is next to impossible.
The biggest of the three, Dash, has long dark hair twisted up into a man bun and a sleeve of tattoos that my fingers itch to trace and explore. He’s the biggest star, and also the biggest alpha-hole of the pack, always telling people what to do and barking when things aren’t exactly right. Ty stands slightly behind him, a bundle of energy just waiting to overwhelm you. But he always seems nice, if a bit overly exuberant. His hair’s dyed green, the team color, and stands on his head in a ridiculous mohawk. It’s eye-catching and cute, and so Ty that it makes my heart flutter. Fox is with them as well, the tips of his ears red, his dark hair cropped close, looking completely out of place with the other two.
Nervously, I play with the hem of my black shorts as I walk forward. We’ve never spoken before, but I know all about Pack Walsh. Hell, all of Oriania knows who they are after they forged ahead to get into the playoffs last year. The team was losing, but then they had an insane comeback after Ty got traded to the team. The second they all connected, everything just clicked for the team. Then, to the surprise of the nation, the season ended, and they decided to form a pack.
Get off my field. Get off my field.
Chanting in my head as I get closer helps to strengthen my spine, and I press my shoulder blades together. Even though they’re Alphas, I can do this.
Every step toward them is harder than the last. Jeez, the green grass goes on for miles, and it takes forever for me to reach them.
“How can I help you?” Dash asks, and all of my bravado flees. Up close, he’s even bigger than I thought. So much larger than Marcel. The realization makes my stomach clench. All the words fly right out of my head, and I gasp for air as his presence completely overwhelms me. And boy, is that a huge freaking mistake.
