“It was the bratting that gave it away,” he teased, and she laughed. He tugged her closer and kissed her on the forehead, and it was then that he realized he didn’t want this to all end after two weeks. They had a lot of time to be trapped together, to explore each other, but he didn’t want to walk away when it was all over.
He wanted more.
He wanted her.
“Ava,” he murmured.
“Yes?”
“Be mine,” he said.
“Like the valentine?” She looked over her shoulder at him, confused, and she looked so damn cute that it was his turn to laugh.
“No,” he shook his head. “I meant, date me.”
“Oh, yeah, of course.”
“Seriously?” That was so much easier than it should have been.
Ava chuckled and wiggled out of his arms so she could face him a little more easily.
“Dylan, I’ve had a crush on you for forever. Of course, I want to date you.”
“But I’ve been away for so long,” he said. “Maybe I’ve changed.”
“Oh, you’ve changed,” she wiggled her eyebrows at him. “But from what I can see, it’s in all the very best ways.”
She leaned forward and placed a gentle kiss on his lips, and this time, Dylan was the one who thought his heart might soar. She was a little baker who had somehow managed to worm her way into his heart, and he didn’t plan on ever letting her go.
