“I can’t believe… oh mygod.”

He walks around the desk, face looking worried. “Come here. Sitdown.”

He guides me to a chair in front of his desk and I slowly take a seat. My heart’s beating so fast and I feel like I’m going to pass out. Will is my boss, the owner of the company that I just started out at. I kissed thisman.

And then it hits me. “Hunter, too?”

He nods. “I’m afraidso.”

“His last name is… Slain?” I vaguely remember that name from my onboardingprocess.

“Yep, that’s the one.” He hesitates by my side. “You sure you’reokay?”

I nod. “I’m fine. I’m justsurprised.”

“I know. When you told me, I thought… well, it’s an amazing coincidence.” He sits back down behind his desk. “Listen, Tori, I just want say something to you, okay?”

“Okay,” I say, feelingblank.

“What happened at Promise, it was all real and good and all five of us enjoyed it. But if you want to leave all that behind us, forget all about it, we can. We can start over and have a professionalrelationship.”

My heart’s beating so fast. “We can just forgetit?”

He nods. “If youwant.”

“I don’tknow.”

A small smile crosses his lips, like a shadow. “Good.”

“This is soweird.”

He laughs then. “I know. Want to make itweirder?”

“How could you possibly dothat?”

“I want to offer yousomething.”

“Okay,” I say. “Iguess.”

“We have a new singer, a kid really. His name is Dustin and we think he’s going to be huge. We’re looking for someone to assign to him, someone with your skillset.”

I take a deep breath. “What skillset?”

“Marketing. Public relations. But also something else, something hard to put into words. Something you showed me back atPromise.”

I bite my lip. “I thought we were forgetting aboutthat.”

“Only if you want to.” His grin gets a little smug. “I doubt you do, though. I know Idon’t.”

“Why not?” Iask.

“Because we made you feel damn good.” He lets that hang between us for a second and I don’t know what to say. He’s not wrong, not at all. “So take this job. You’ll be good atit.”

“Okay,” I say softly, and just then Will’s dooropens.

I half turn and there’s Hunter, walking into the room. “Having a meeting without me?” heasks.

“Hi, Hunter,” I say, totallydazed.
