I sit there, totally stunned. I can hardly believe my ears. Julian, cheating on his wife with the niece of a disgraced noble clan? That’s just too fucking good. Way toogood.

“What’s her name?” Hazel asksgently.

“Renee,” he says. “And that fucker Lord Eder has been bribing me for years to keep my trapshut.”

“So why are you telling us now?” I askhim.

“Because I’m sick of that bastard. And he doesn’t pay me enough.” Micah leans back in his chair, arms crossed. “If you want her address, you better write acheck.”

Hazel laughs and looks at me. “You heard the man, Prince Nolan,” shesays.

I grumble and get out my checkbook. Ten minutes later, Micah is a rich man, and we have an address in a nearby town. We climb back into my car, I start the engine, and Hazel puts the address into theGPS.

“What do you think?” I askher.

She shrugs. “He’s weird. But I believehim.”

“Why?”

“He doesn’t seem like he has a reason to lie,” she says. “I doubt he’ll cash that check. And if he does, he won’t goanywhere.”

“How can you know that?” I ask her, a littlesurprised.

“I know men like him, from back home,” she says softly. “Men that lost what they once were and are too rooted into place to ever change back. No, he’ll always be there if we ever need to go back. I don’t think he’s lying atall.”

I nod my head and decide to trust her. As we drive, I can’t help but picture what’s waiting for us at this woman’s door. I picture a busty girl in her mid-twenties, prime and ripe and young enough for Julian to risk his career. He’s pretending to be this good family man, and yet here’s proof that he’s a piece ofshit.

We just need this woman to talk. If she can tell us her story and give us any corroborating evidence, that’ll be enough for me to turn the opinion of many nobles. I think it might even be enough to turn my father’s opinion, if I’m being honest withmyself.

We pull up to a nondescript apartment building in a larger town about fifteen minutes away. We climb out and this time I don’t bother to try and get Hazel to stay behind. I know she’s not goingto.

We walk up the short driveway and head inside the building. She lives in 2F, so we climb the stairs and finally stop outside of herdoor.

“Ready?” I ask Hazel. “This could be big, youknow.”

“Let’s do it.” She grins at me then knocks on thedoor.

I laugh softly and she shrugs. About a minute later, a woman answers thedoor.

“Yes?” she asks, and then her eyes go wide when she sees me. “Areyou…”

“I’m Prince Nolan,” I say. “And youare?”

The woman is tall, blonde, with thick hips and large breasts. I can absolutely see why Julian would be interested in her. I bet he sees her as a younger version of his wife, and probably tries to justify his infidelity thatway.

“Muriel” shesays.

I pause, surprised. “Muriel? We’re looking forRenee.”

She sighs like she’s not surprised. “One second.” She half shuts the door and turns back into the apartment. “Renee, people for you,” she callsout.

I glance at Hazel, not sure what to make of this. That was probably just her roommate, though. Makes sense, a young woman would need a roommate to afford thistown.

A second later, a young girl pulls open the door. She can’t be older than sixteen years old with straight black hair and mousey browneyes.

As soon as she sees me, she bursts intotears.

“I’m so sorry, Prince Nolan,” she says, sobbing into her hands. “I didn’t want to. He made me doit.”
