I shot to the defensive, unable to control my anger. “For your information, LP II is legit, we were there for my friend’s bachelorette, it’s totally fine,” I spat. “Mind your own business.”

“Your business is my business,” said Jenna darkly. “At least in this respect.”

“Anyways,” said Cade, “We wanted to apprise you of our affairs, come out into the open and reassure you that we’re not dancing anymore. That’s in our past and we’ve decided to leave it behind.”

“But,” added Caleb, “we wanted to inform you of another development. And that’s … I’m asking Karina to marry me.”

My cheeks flushed, my mouth dropping open. What? This gorgeous man was proposing now? In front of our families?

But the reaction was immediate.

“Oh honey, that’s wonderful,” gushed my mom. “It’ll only strengthen the ties between us, with you married to Caleb and Tina married to Matt. Perfect!”

“I love it,” nodded my sister Tina. “You’re wonderful together, I can see how much you’ve supported each other through this rape scandal. I know Sandy was your friend, Karina, but it’s great how you stood up for your brothers, closing ranks to maintain solidarity. That’s the definition of a true partnership,” she said, grabbing her husband’s hand and squeezing fondly.

I was shocked. I hadn’t even said yes yet, and yet everyone was cooing, congratulating us, acting like it was a done deal.

“Wait a minute,” I said slowly. “This is all news to me … I haven’t decided yet.”

And the twins turned to look at me, their expressions forbidding, unforgiving looks on their faces.
