After a moment, I sat back, staring down at him as I was draped over his chest.

“So, what’s the plan?”

Pietor cocked that pierced brow. “I’m sorry?”

“The plan. To take down Nicholas. What are we going to do?”

Laughing, he sat up, leaning against the headboard as he held me to his chest. Pietor’s thumb smoothed over my cheek, and I drank in the look of his tussled hair and mismatched eyes.

“You don’t stop for long. Has anyone ever told you that?”

I grinned, nodding as my cheeks heated. “Yes. You actually.”

Pietor smirked, clearly quite pleased with himself, but he cleared his throat with a sigh and nodded.

“Well, I have quite a bit to use against him in terms of the recordings we’ve already gotten, so we could bring that into someone you trust on the force?”

I thought back to what he’d heard during our last spy job. “Hmm, no. There’s not enough. Cohen didn’t actually confess to doing anything. Knowing about his clients is one thing, even thinking that I might be killed. He didn’t do it. That makes him a jerk, not guilty. We need more.”

A crease formed between Pietor’s brows, and he narrowed his eyes. I could see the wheels turning in his head, and I enjoyed seeing the concentration. His smarts were just as attractive as everything else about him. Well, almost. That piercing in his dick was…

Mmm…what are we talking about now?

“What if we caught Cohen admitting to breaking the law or taking bribes?” Pietor’s eyes flicked to mine, and I refocused on the mission at hand.

“That could work. But how do we get him to say all that? He’s been cagey as hell since I’ve known him. I don’t even know where he lives.”

Pietor shifted, making us both sit up taller. I leaned back, holding the sheets around my breasts.

“Could you still get into the law firm?”

I cocked my head. “Probably. There’s no reason for anyone to think that I don’t work there. Hell, Nicholas thinks that I’m still working the case for him as far as I can tell.”

“You could try to find files on his computer or—”

“Wait.” An idea crystallized in my mind, and I hopped up onto my knees excitedly. “He thinks I’m with you. But what if I go back to the office and pretend like I just got away? He’ll want the information I collected, right? So, what if I play naïve? Beg him for details about what’s going on.”

With a slight frown, Pietor took my hand. “Billie, I don’t know how dangerous your boss, well ex-boss, is. He could come at you if he doesn’t like what he’s hearing.”

“That could work, though. If Nicholas tries something, we can use it against him. I mean, I assume you’ll be nearby. You could record him. Visual evidence is an amazing resource.”

That frown was still pointing at me, and Pietor took a deep breath, gearing up for something. “Billie—"

“Please. Let me do this. I’ll wear a wire, and I’ll keep my distance. I won’t do anything stupid. I just…I need to do this. I need to prove I’m not under his thumb—afraid.”

“If he comes at you,” Pietor shifted up onto his knees to mirror my position, closing the distance between us, “and I’m too far away, what are you going to do? You don’t know how to fight, Billie.”

Grumbling, I hung my head, looking off to the side. As I shoved at him, Pietor snagged my hands.

“I don’t want anything happening to you. I…I can’t have that, okay?”

There was a realness to his words that made my chest tighten. But this was our best chance. We had to take him down, for both of us.

“Trust me, Pietor. I don’t want anything happening to me, either. So…” My brain churned, searching for a solution. “Oh! What if you train me? At least enough to know how to get out of a sticky situation.”

The look on Pietor’s face nearly forced a giggle to erupt, but I chewed it back, rolling my lips between my teeth. After a moment, he closed his eyes with a sigh, his head bobbing back and forth with something that wasn’t quite a head shake but more of a circle.

“You want me to train you to fight? Against Nicholas?”
