Icould feel the urgency behind Everly’s text. She never lets us take on an assignment without accepting it first through the interface. My father must have set something in motion and it’s up to me to stop it.

Making a quick stop by the bunker, Shado and I grab our bows and bolt back out of the basement.

“You ready for this?” I ask, genuinely concerned about how well he learned my methods in two weeks. If I didn’t know better, I would say he was lying about never shooting a bow before.

“You trained me well, Cal,” he reassures me. “Plus, I’ve got my little friend if things go sideways.”

He points to his holster, where his gun is snugly strapped to his leg.

Rolling my eyes, I quip, “Old habits die hard, huh?”

He shrugs as he slides into the driver’s seat. “Let’s roll.”

“You’ve really got to get a bike,” I groan as I press on the gas pedal and speed ahead of him, weaving in and out of the streets of Edinburgh, leaving Shado in my tracks.

I grin to myself because I know that pisses him off.

Maybe he will take it out on you later.

Shaking my head, I look forward, noticing the light abruptly changing to red, causing me to slam on my brakes.

Ugh. These thoughts have got to stop. I am going to end up killing myself.

Ever since the first night I met him, there has been a thick tension between us, and no matter how bad I want to give into this insatiable need, I can’t bring myself to give into my feelings toward him. Not after everything Silas put me through.

But fuck me, if my clit doesn’t ache after every single training session. Even at night during stakeouts, I want to jump across the seat and ride him until I can’t walk. The small taste I got of him only created this intense craving that I can’t satisfy.

Pulling up to the docks, I park my bike behind two shipping crates, patiently waiting for Shado to pull up. Peering around the crate, I observe the scene before me. Two men stand guard by a door where Allister must be inside.

If Shado would hurry the fuck up, I could take these two guys out within seconds.

Fuck, he needs a bike.

“Hey.” A whisper against my ear sends shivers down my spine and causes me to jump. Turning around as I draw an arrow from my quiver, I come face to face with Shado.

“God Dammit.” I huff out, “Are you stupid?!”

His cologne invades my senses as he is mere inches from my face, towering over me. Since working with me, he has traded in khaki cargo pants for black pants, and a black tank top for a hoodie. Even with the mask over his face, I can feel his black eyes piercing through mine.

“Set the scene for me.”

“Two men, 12 and 2, by the door. Allister must be inside.”

He nods, drawing an arrow, and walks around so he is standing in front of me.

“What are you doing? I got this.” He acts so protective of me, like I am a fragile doll that can’t take care of herself.

Well, he’s about to learn today.

Running around him, I snap the arrow from the drawstring, effectively taking down the first man before the second guy can register what is happening.

A whoosh rushes past my ears as an arrow pierces through the second guy’s chest, causing him to drop to the ground.

Shado catches up to me, looking agitated, “Any other damn surprises today?”

“I told you I had it.”

“Hmm…when have we had this argument before?” He growls, as he enters the door the two men were guarding before we took them down.
