I searched for any program that might be set up to do something like that, and thankfully, that was easy to find. I opened it and put in my password again, hoping this wouldn’t be too out of the norm.

“I’ll pull the footage myself,” Cas assured over the phone. “We’ll make sure you have whatever you need.”

Liam turned away from the monitor and eyed the glowing machines. “I don’t think anyone’s asked me for any footage of this room outside of the night Gideon died. Not even the police.”

“Of course not. They have no reason to even consider there might be missing evidence from Valor Enterprises. They’re probably more interested in the servers over at Aegis.”

Surprisingly, the information on where the backups were being sent was labeled as confidential. My network admin password wasn’t enough. I stared at the request for an additional password.

I pushed away from the workstation and waved at the keyboard. “It’s asking for additional clearance.”

Liam didn’t hesitate. He typed in his username and password, hitting enter as soon as he was done. “We have this system set up so those who want to access our backups are forced to ask us for permission. Cas ensured no one would be able to hack into it this way as long as they didn’t know the password.”

“Cas was right.” I pushed Liam aside and pulled up the destination for the backups. “There are programs to brute force your way through a request for a password, but it’s not fast. If you have a very simple password, it could work, but even then, you’ll need the time to sit here and wait.”

We definitely didn’t have the time for anything like that.

“Someone’s probably going to come down here to see who’s trying to access the servers,” I muttered, keeping my voice as soft as possible as I put in the IP addresses, the location, the company, and the last time a backup was sent into my phone. “If someone does come snooping, they probably have every right to be down here.”

Easy to get away with stuff when not many people had access to a room like this.

“I’m going to do my best to erase my trail, but if I want to have access, I need to keep my admin account. I just have to hide it.” I logged out of the backups and started closing everything I’d opened.

My programs were already uploaded on the authentication server. It was a shame I didn’t have the time to crack open the other admin accounts, but I didn’t necessarily need access to those just yet. I only needed a record of where the missing data packets were coming from.

I opened the command line and started erasing everything I’d touched, watching the upload on the other servers as I did so.

“So, we need an excuse for being down here?” Liam ran his hand through his hair and glanced at the door. He didn’t look nervous exactly, but wary.

“No, showing your girlfriend the server room is enough of an excuse.” Almost done. Just a few more to go. “You just need an excuse for using this workstation since I have no right to be on it. Is there anything on here you might use to show off?”

There wasn’t a single drop of humor in his chuckle. “Give me a second and I’ll come up with something.”

“I’m almost done so hurry up.”

“Someone from IT is heading down there,” Cas warned.

Liam didn’t curse, but I felt his energy spike and I picked up the pace. “When you’re done, back out of everything but don’t log out of my account.”

I finished right as my programs were done uploading to the other servers so I ejected the drive and closed out of everything, following Liam’s instructions to the letter.

“Good, now find where we keep our company assets. Go in there and select the purchases from this month.” Liam slid his hands under my armpits and lifted me out of the chair. He sat down and then pulled me into his lap. “Go into the distribution folder and then select the file marked ‘vessels.’”

I opened each one, ignoring the information in favor of speed. When I opened the one labeled ‘vessels,’ Liam set his hand over mine on the mouse and wrapped his arm around my waist. I froze when I felt his lips brush against my ear, catching the scent of his sandalwood and oranges.

“Such a good girl,” Liam murmured. “What else would you do for me if I ordered you to?”

“I’m ending the call,” Frankie warned. “I refuse to listen to this, but Cas will stay on the line.”

“You have five seconds,” Cas growled.

The door to the server room opened and I lunged forward, yanking out my flash drive and tucking it into my pocket as Liam selected one of the serial numbers.

A picture of a massive yacht popped up and he rested his chin on my shoulder. His knees shifted and he widened his stance, spreading my legs apart. It was so fast and smooth that I gasped.

Liam kissed my jaw like it had always been the plan to seduce me down here. “How do you feel about going on a business trip with me?”

I shivered when his rough words skittered over my neck.
