I grimaced when I saw what he was talking about.

Offshore accounts.

“I was finally able to trace where the cash he put in the safe came from too,” Lucy explained. “The numbers match up with the cost of materials that were lost.”

“If I can get any records of insurance claims from the Steele pack, I will,” Frankie told us. She started shifting back and forth, rocking almost. It reminded me of the same nervous excitement I could feel through the bond from Lucy, but my omega was completely still and expressionless.

“One last thing.” Lucy tilted her head slightly and watched Liam like she was waiting for him to explode just like I was, but she seemed unnervingly calm about it. “Whatever Cas taught you and Gideon must have left an impression because your brother was sending backups from an external source to an encrypted drive. It’s got a key, not a password and no one can touch it without that key, not even me.”

Liam stepped forward, making me tense. But he left the office without a word and closed the door behind him. Two seconds later, I could hear glass shattering.

Must be throwing all the dishware he didn’t like again.

It would be a fucking mess to clean up and we’d have to make sure there weren’t shards for Lucy to step on, but we had the equipment for that kind of shit. I’d rather he do this than start yelling and screaming when it would affect our omega.

Frankie eyed Lucy as she tied her hair up into a ponytail. “If I can’t get proof of insurance fraud, I might reach out to the Grimm alpha. Information is one of the services their pack offers and this shouldn’t compromise them even if they did get a contract to kill Gideon Valor.”

“Just be careful,” Lucy murmured, her gaze dropping on the floor. “And don’t go alone.”

“You think I’m stupid?” Frankie scoffed. “Nah, I’ll make my father come with me if I can secure a meeting with Grimm.”

The following silence in the office felt strange when I could still hear the sound of glass shattering before it cut off abruptly.

Lucy looked to me then. “Should I send my report to Nicolette now or wait?”

I didn’t have an answer to that question.

The door opened behind me and Liam came in with a stack of pizzas, looking completely calm. I didn’t smell any new blood either, which was a nice change. He set the pizzas on Lucy’s desk and opened the top of the first one, acting like he hadn’t just lost his shit five minutes ago.

Lucy raised an eyebrow at him but didn’t say anything. I don’t know why she hadn’t gone after him, but her instincts were apparently spot-on.

I still couldn’t believe how well she could handle him, but after everything they’d been through, it made sense.

“So.” Liam handed the first pizza box to Frankie. “Should I question Melinda for you?”

CHAPTER 5

Cas

Aw, fuck. I was really hoping we wouldn’t have to cross this line.

“You’re asking me if you should interrogate a pregnant omega?” Lucy raised an eyebrow and didn’t take the pizza box he offered her. “Why?”

Liam shrugged but his shoulders went up, clearly feeling her anger through the bond just like I was. “I’m asking because I don’t want you to have to see her again after what happened last time.”

Lucy studied him, still just as expressionless as before, but I could feel her anger subsiding. It was fucking impressive just how good she was at hiding what she was feeling. “I appreciate the offer but I should be the one to talk to her. Honestly, I don’t even think Frankie should be there.”

I frowned and looked over at Frankie, wondering if she knew what Lucy meant by that or if we were all lost, but she wouldn’t look at me. She just ate a slice of the Hawaiian pizza with her mask tugged down around her neck like she didn’t have a care in the world.

“Lucy.” Liam slammed the pizza box back on the stack and glared at her. “What does that even mean?”

Both her eyebrows were raised now and anger was bubbling under the surface again. “She’s a pregnant omega without an alpha of her own. If all of you assholes are in there, bristling at her, it’ll cause problems. Frankie is good at calming unbonded omegas down, so she’ll come with me.”

Jesus, this was getting out of hand. “Liam, if you can’t relax, I’m going to have to step in.” I couldn’t take it anymore. He was acting too volatile around Lucy and she kept provoking him like she wanted him to lash out at her.

What the fuck was wrong with these two?

“If that’s all for tonight…then I’m gonna head home.” Frankie saluted me with her half-eaten pizza as she sauntered toward the door. “I’ll be back at eight thirty, Lucy, so don’t stay up too late.”
