“Are you sure about that?” I wrapped my arms around his waist and breathed in the soft orange scent radiating off of his bare chest. “I could wear ripped jeans and a crop top again. Imagine what everyone would say about that.”

Liam gently took my face in his hands, forcing me to look up at him, and my heart instantly started racing when I felt the shift in his mood. “They can say whatever they want, Lucy.”

When he leaned down, I flinched, but I knew he wouldn’t hurt me. His aura was just intense. His sweet kiss did nothing to ease the murderous intent either. “But just because they can say whatever they want…that doesn’t mean they can get away with it.”

Even without the power of Valor behind him, Liam was a force to be reckoned with all on his own.

I really hoped no one would push him into proving just how powerful he was because Liam was viciously protective and he never let anything slide.

Whoever thought he might would be in for a rude awakening.

CHAPTER 26

Lucy

We pulled up to the Taco Temple and I wiped my sweaty hands on the skirt of my dress. This place always looked like it was falling apart. The paint was fading and the weird temple façade made out of cardboard looked like it was being held together with termites and a prayer.

It may look as though it should be condemned, but it was a well-known secret that this place was neutral ground for legacy packs to meet, and the inside was way nicer than it seemed. Many deals had been brokered here over the last hundred years and I was still having a hard time believing I was going to be part of one.

Because of Arturo Lopez of all people.

Liam and Cas had him moved to one of their hidey-holes at some point over the last week, and yesterday Dr. Humphries took Dane to the same location. I didn’t ask where it was because I didn’t want to know.

Not until we knew how Valor would handle this meeting.

Two motorcycles pulled up and parked in front of my new car, and Frankie got off of hers first, unbuckling her helmet like this was any other day. When she pulled it off, all her bright red hair tumbled out like something in a movie. She didn’t look nervous at all despite the fact that she’d have to see Arturo in person for the first time in a decade either.

Frankie glanced back at me and grinned, excited to see what show I’d put on this time.

At least one of us thought this was going to be fun.

Then she turned to Cas and said something I couldn’t hear from inside this ridiculous car. Even if I could, I’d be too distracted by what he was wearing to hear her.

Black tactical pants and a black shirt so tight it was obscene. I could see every single ridge of his muscles but it was the leather harness over it all that was ruining me. He wasn’t trying to hide that he was armed and dangerous at all.

Liam chuckled. “I knew you’d like that outfit.”

“I do.”

“What about mine?”

I studied him out of the corner of my eye, knowing I couldn’t do it for long or I’d ask him to take me home right now.

I don’t know why, but this long-sleeved crop top looked slutty on him. I could see every single one of his washboard abs whether he was standing up or sitting down. The black top with the words ‘the morbid the merrier’ across the top was hysterical and I was definitely going to steal it one day, but…

How the fuck was I supposed to walk into this meeting with Liam Valor in a crop top and not stare at him the whole fucking time?

I looked out the window because if I kept staring at him, slick was going to start oozing down my thighs. “You did this on purpose, didn’t you?”

“Of course I did.” Liam took my hand and kissed my palm. “Now you can just eye-fuck me until you’re not nervous anymore. Win-win.”

I didn’t know what to even say to that.

Cas saved me when he came around to the passenger side and opened the door for me. I took his hand and let him help me out, trying not to feel self-conscious about the black, long-sleeved dress with black lace tights and knee-high leather boots that I was wearing.

It was my favorite outfit but it didn’t hide anything, not like the cute maxi skirt and turtleneck I’d worn to question Melinda. The top on this dress was low enough to show off a bit of cleavage but that wasn’t what was going to cause a stir.

I couldn’t decide if it was going to be the tattoos, the bond marks, or the antique diamond necklace Francisco had given me for my college graduation.
