“The car.” Liam waved at the dashboard. “I saw they had this special color last year and it reminded me of you so I placed an order. I didn’t expect to be able to actually give it to you, but I’m relieved it worked out.”
Last year?
I took another look at the car, wondering why this obnoxiously bright purple-pink car reminded him of me.
“There are these sunflowers,” Liam said, skimming his lips over my jaw. “They’re not exactly this color but close. When I saw this car, I just knew you had to have it. You’re my sunflower, baby.”
His breath tickled my neck and I blinked away the burning sensation of tears. I really could not afford to cry right now and fuck up my eyeliner when it was this perfect.
“I can’t believe you bought me a car. Last year.” I rubbed the Audii logo with my thumb, still not sure how to deal with this. “I don’t even like driving.”
Shit, that wasn’t the right thing to say. I knew that but I didn’t know how to keep my stupid mouth shut and say what people wanted to hear when Liam bought me a fucking car that cost three times my yearly salary.
He pulled down my turtleneck and kissed the spider lily on the side of my neck. I could feel his smile. “Just ask.”
“Ask you what?”
“‘Liam, my love, my alpha, will you please drive me around the city – everywhere my heart desires in this pretty purple car you got for me?’”
I laughed, covering my eyes with my hand so he couldn’t see how close I was to crying. I should have known he wouldn’t be mad about what I’d said. I should have remembered that had never bothered him.
Liam didn’t care and it hit me all over again that this was real. This alpha of mine knew me better than I knew myself. He’d remembered every tiny fucking detail of what I liked, what I didn’t like, and how weird I got about stuff like this…
This was real.
“Hey, don’t cry. You’ll ruin your pretty makeup and Cas might just kill me for real this time.”
I peeked to see Cas leaning against his motorcycle with his arms crossed over his chest, glaring at Liam. At some point he’d taken his helmet off, and the way he was standing made his arms and shoulders look absolutely massive. Even more so than usual.
Turning back to Liam, I took his hand and placed the key fob in his palm, wrapping his fingers around it. “Liam. My love. My alpha…”
I heard his breath hitch and I smiled, giddy I could make him react like that.
“Will you please drive me everywhere my heart desires in this pretty purple car you got for me?”
“Such a good girl,” he whispered, staring down at the key fob with a stunned expression.
Did that really shock him?
He grabbed my face without warning and yanked me roughly over the console, devouring me. His lips were soft and unyielding, his mouth was warm but not too hot and his tongue dove in to taste me like he was afraid he might just forget the flavor.
Liam released me just as quickly as he’d grabbed me and the grin on his face was breathtaking. “I’ll drive you anywhere at any time, baby. I’ll be the best assistant ever.”
“You’re ridiculous.”
He just grinned and got out of the car, walking around towards the passenger door. No matter how many times I saw it, I would never get used to the way he prowled.
Liam was so good at making everyone believe he was nothing more than a spoiled legacy prince who didn’t know what it was like to wear anything other than a luxury brand or how to fly without a private plane.
They all assumed he got his degree in business at some hoity-toity school and played sports in high school simply because that was what was expected of him. They believed he was exactly what he looked like despite his red eyes.
Did they really not see that the way he walked was far too predatory and smooth for someone who was supposedly sheltered?
Even the way he smiled was just a little too sharp.
And somehow that stupid crop top didn’t do anything to make him look any less dangerous.
Liam opened my door for me with that sharp smile, but it didn’t scare me like it should. Not when I saw it for what it was. His predatory smile was a promise – a reminder that he was the only one who had any right to devour me – with his eyes, his mouth…
