I didn’t hesitate. His strength washed over me through the bond, and I was by his side before I realized I’d even moved. My arm went around his waist and I breathed in the faint traces of his scent on his clothes, instantly feeling less panicked.
“Why are they here?”
“Someone must have tipped them off,” Liam gritted out.
His dark expression didn’t make the paparazzi any less excited. If anything, their questions became even more fervent, almost frothing at the mouth to get information from the next heir of Valor himself.
“Should I call Aegis?” Frankie asked, pressing into my other side so I was surrounded by them.
I breathed a little easier knowing I wasn’t alone and I wouldn’t have to deal with this by myself. I may not be the ideal omega, but I wasn’t defective or worthless. “We just need to get to the car.”
A tug on the bond told me my other alpha wasn’t far, and he was getting closer.
“Cas will be here soon,” I whispered, taking my tea latte from Liam. “We should meet him out there.”
“Are you sure?” Liam finally tore his gaze away from the huge crowd of paparazzi outside to study me.
Those dark red eyes glittered dangerously, but I found them reassuring. He would do anything for me. All I had to do was ask.
“I’m sure,” I told him. “We have what we need for now.”
Liam didn’t look to Frankie to get her opinion, which I appreciated. He just studied me, clearly trying to make sure I wasn’t hiding the truth from him somehow.
Satisfied I really meant it, he nodded and reached out to tuck a piece of my hair behind my ear. “I’m not going to pretend you’re not my omega, Lucy. I want them all to know. Maybe then they’ll realize how fucking dangerous it is to follow us around in the future.”
“That’s fine.” I leaned into him, needing to be closer. “Can you stop glaring though? They might think you don’t like me.”
His surprise came through the bond like a breath of fresh air, washing away everything else. Then he gave me that blinding smile of his I loved so much. “They better say nice things about you or I’ll buy every single news outlet in the city and fire everyone for reporting fake news.”
Before I could tell him how stupid that was, he tipped my chin up and gave me a soft, sweet kiss.
“I’m taking you home first,” Liam warned me. “Then we’ll figure out who told them where we were.”
I was about to protest but he kissed me again, slipping his tongue into my mouth to steal all my words before I could say them.
“I’ll take you to the server room at Valor after that,” Liam murmured against my lips. “You’ll get in there today. I promise.”
“Fine.” I stood up on my tiptoes, gripping his coat so I could whisper in his ear. “But if you break your promise, I’m going to stab you.”
He chuckled and pulled back to direct me toward the door, Frankie taking the lead like she was our bodyguard, not my partner. I expected him to make another joke, but Liam didn’t say a word, and when the door opened I understood why.
The questions they shouted at us were insanely assumptive as well as rude. They varied from which pack I was from to how long we’d been seeing each other.
Frankie pushed through them with practiced moves, elbowing someone in the face who got a little too rough. When his camera hit the ground and shattered, she handed him her business card before he could say a word – the one from the Lopez pack, not Genesis.
I saw Cas on the other side of the crowd and for the first time probably ever, he let his pheromones out in public. I’d never seen people move out of the way as fast as they did for Cas. They practically jumped to the side to avoid the dangerous killing aura reaching out to me.
“Who’s the girl, Mr. Valor? Is she an omega?”
“Is this who you were having dinner with at Bite a month ago?”
Cas grabbed my arm and angled his body so he could shield me from all the flashing lights and hungry eyes.
“I thought you weren’t interested in omegas, Mr. Valor?”
“What does Cassius Valentine think of her? And does the Valor alpha approve?”
Jesus, they really wanted to piss him off, didn’t they?
