Ugh, that must be what I looked like when Liam and Cas did the same shit. How embarrassing.

“Well, if our date goes well, who knows? Maybe you’ll pick me instead.” This guy had balls. I had to give him that. “If not, I’ll take you up on that favor.”

The barista waved us behind the counter, and I glanced back at Liam who gave me a little nod before shoving his hands in his coat pockets.

I followed after Frankie and the barista into the surprisingly spacious back office and she gave me one of her goofy smiles.

This shit was fun for her and she always thought my reactions were hilarious. I had no idea why, but whatever got the job done honestly. I was just glad I didn’t have to flirt with anyone to get what we needed.

“All our security is on here,” the barista explained as he logged into one of the computers. “The modem is over there. Just don’t mess with it too much or they’ll fire me.”

Doubtful considering he was family to the Tinleys.

“Just let me know if you need anything else.” He gave us both a little wave as he left, and I gave him another point for giving us privacy.

“He’s cute,” I said as I sat down, diving right into the task manager to see what kinds of programs they had running. “Francisco might even approve.”

“Ew.”

I snickered as I scrolled through the various programs running in the background. “Is that why you told him you were getting engaged?”

“Considering who owns this place, that one sentence will start some gossip and give me a reason to reach out to River sooner rather than later.” Frankie pulled down one of the folders off the shelf and set her coffee on the desk as I stuck a flash drive into the USB port. “And to be honest, I’m surprised you care about another omega. Especially one who tried to marry Liam.”

Normally, Frankie would be right. I didn’t care about omegas, but I didn’t really care about anyone. Their lives weren’t any of my business.

But River Steele was an omega who went out with Liam and then decided she wasn’t interested in him. He said it was a mutual decision but I found that hard to believe. Liam definitely wasn’t interested in her, but how could she possibly not be interested in him?

I was insanely curious what kind of person could take one look at him and think, pass.

River didn’t seem like the kind of person who’d be fine with being used either, so I didn’t understand why she was just letting it happen. It was super weird.

The whole thing gave me bad vibes.

I downloaded all the security footage I could, relieved they actually recorded and stored up to three months’ worth of footage.

“Lucy.”

I grimaced and moved everything from the firewall to my flash drive. “I was hoping you’d just let it go.”

“You’ve lost your mind if you think I’d let something like this go.” Frankie flicked my forehead and I glared at her, rubbing the sore spot. “I know how you get when you’re feeling all territorial and possessive.”

Right, I’d forgotten about that.

It was a shame Francisco couldn’t erase her memory the way he’d erased any record of that incident.

CHAPTER 16

Lucy

I pulled up the firewall while I waited for everything to finish downloading, wishing Liam and Cas couldn’t hear this conversation but I knew they were listening through the open channel they’d insisted on. “River doesn’t make me feel territorial or possessive. Why would I do anything to her?”

Frankie put the folder back and crossed her arms over her chest, leaning against the metal shelves as she watched me work. “Lucy, you shot that omega when you found him on top of me.”

Wincing, I selected the first date I needed and went down the list of IP addresses. “It’s not my fault. That omega drugged you when you told him no. He’s lucky he’s still alive.”

Frankie sighed. “Thanks for making sure I didn’t end up accidentally getting someone pregnant, but I still think you could have just knocked him out and kicked him into the hallway.”

I could have, but I’d come home to find some random omega trying to get on top of Frankie who was obviously roofied. I’d lost my fucking shit, and my first instinct was to get him off of her by any means possible.
