Now, he was doing the same thing, like no time had passed at all. Liam wanted to make all my dreams reality.

And how could I deny him when he was so earnest about it?

I looked up and studied his face, relieved to see he looked better after some food and sleep. “You think you can remember it?”

He smiled and fixed the collar of my coat, making it feel like we were the only two people in the café. “Is it still a chai tea latte made with loose leaf tea, vanilla syrup, and whole milk?”

I blinked, shocked he remembered that. “I had no idea you were paying attention when I ordered that in middle school. What’s wrong with you?”

“I told you, I’ve been obsessed with you for more than half of my life.” Liam gave me a sharp grin and kissed my cheek. “Bet you don’t know what I like to drink.”

He urged me toward the register, his red eyes twinkling.

Whether I knew it or not didn’t matter. Liam just wanted to rile me up because he thought it was fun.

What a prick.

Frankie waited patiently in front of us like she was here by herself, eyes unfocused as she put on yet another act. We were here for coffee. That was it.

I chewed on the inside of my lip as I tried to remember what the boy who sat with me while I did my homework liked to drink. I don’t remember hearing him order, but the cups they used at that café in Chinatown were ceramic. They weren’t disposable.

Definitely something with milk because everything he drank had foam art.

No tea bags so it was probably espresso based.

“You wound me,” Liam teased, his hand sliding up my spine to soothe me. “But I didn’t expect you to pay attention to what I was drinking back then. Why would you?”

Shit, he was right.

But I have read a lot of articles on the Valor pack since getting hired. One of them had to mention his preferences. All I had to do was remember which one. What the hell was the point of a photographic memory if I couldn’t use it to win at something as stupid as this?

Frankie ordered her usual and then it was our turn. Liam gave the barista my drink order and then looked to me with that stupid smirk on his face, waiting for me to order for him.

There was one article about the date he went on with River Steele a few years ago. They’d met in a fancy café at a hotel and she had black tea with sugar from India while Liam had…

I cleared my throat and stepped forward so I didn’t have to raise my voice too much. “An espresso orange, please.”

The barista made a face but wrote the order down on one of the cups. “Anything else?”

Liam’s smile was fucking blinding and he never once looked away from me when he told the barista that would be all, handing over a very heavy-looking credit card.

“That’s not what I drank with you, but it is what I like now.” Liam chuckled and kissed the top of my head. “I should know better than to play games with you. You’re too fucking smart, Lucy. I’m going to lose every time.”

Before I could say anything, the sound of the metal credit card hitting the counter caught my attention and the barista blushed, picking it up and handing it over like he was embarrassed.

Must have seen the name on the card.

I watched him rush to the espresso machine, starting Frankie’s order as he made it very clear he wasn’t going to stare at us. Was this going to be a problem? I should have been the one to pay but it hadn’t occurred to me in time because my alphas were always so distracting.

“How’ve you been?” the barista asked Frankie, eyeing her hot little motorcycle getup. It was obvious he wanted to take her for a ride.

“Oh, you know…busy as always.” Frankie gave the guy a huge smile and leaned her hip against the counter, tucking her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket. “How’ve you been?”

The barista flashed Frankie a flirty smile as he started pulling the shots and I studied him closely.

I guess he was cute in that wholesome kinda way. I couldn’t tell what his designation was, but he was pretty tall and built so he was probably a beta or an alpha.

Did he know who Frankie actually was? It was hard to say when he kept flirting with her like he really didn’t care that she was an alpha.
