Somehow, I became his anchor in the process and at this point, I didn’t think either of us knew how to exist without the other.
But I couldn’t hide anymore. Not when these two were so insistent on dragging me into the light with them.
Liam slid his arm around Lucy and pressed hand to my back, pushing me even closer to him. “I’m going to make a new pack with your name.”
He watched me carefully as I absorbed that.
This wasn’t the first time we’d had this conversation, but it was the first time I didn’t immediately tell him to go fuck himself.
“It’s supposed to be up to Lucy,” I reminded him.
“It is, but I’ve decided this is what I’m going to do regardless of what she wants.” Liam pulled her closer like he thought I might try to take her away from him for making a unilateral decision for her.
I didn’t pull her back, but I moved closer and set my hand on his waist so he couldn’t run off or whatever it was he was thinking right now. “Why would you do that? Didn’t you promise her she’d get to choose?”
Liam looked down at Lucy, ignoring me like the asshole he was.
I lifted my lip in a silent snarl, annoyed he always tried to pull this shit with me. “You made a promise.”
“As much as I hate to admit it, I know this won’t solve the real problem,” he admitted. “Lucy never had an issue with the Valor pack specifically. She had an issue with being in the spotlight when she doesn’t fit the conventional expectations for omegas. That’s going to be a problem whether she joins the Valor pack or not.”
Those stupid red eyes. I wish I didn’t admire them so much. All this wouldn’t be a problem if his eyes were any other color than red. “You’re lucky she likes how pretty your eyes are.”
Liam finally looked at me, but he didn’t smile. His red eyes were so much darker than they were before we’d bonded Lucy. I wasn’t sure if that was normal or not, but I liked the way it looked. “If I could protect her without them, I would have already had you remove them for me.”
Knowing he meant every word was the only thing that kept me sane.
“Since it doesn’t matter which pack she joins, I want to make sure everyone knows she belongs to you as well. Not just me.” Liam gave me a slow, sleepy blink and I felt my adrenaline spike in warning. “If we register a new pack under the name Valentine, we can always hyphenate it later to show our ties to Valor. My mother is desperate to keep me by her side, so it wouldn’t be hard to make that kind of change down the line.”
Why did what he was saying make sense? It shouldn’t make sense. It should sound insane. Impossible. And dangerous.
But I wanted this visible connection to Lucy more than I’d ever wanted anything. Having her take my name instead of Valor…
“So, would you become Liam Valentine?” I didn’t pull them any closer. If I did, Lucy would definitely feel how hard my dick was right now.
Those dangerous red eyes glimmered with amusement. “I knew you’d come around.”
“Answer the question, Liam.”
He slid his hand up and over my shoulder to grip the back of my neck. “Are you saying you want to mark me?”
My heart froze and then started thundering as I fought against the instinct to sink my teeth into him right now. “It didn’t take the last time.”
“Because one of us would have to concede to the other,” Liam murmured. He caressed the tendon on the side of my throat with his thumb, following the movement as he did so. “We both know that’s never going to happen.”
A shame, honestly. He’d look good with the silvery marks of my bond on his neck.
“That doesn’t mean you can’t keep marking me.” Liam pressed his thumb into my neck hard enough to make it difficult to breathe. “Lucy can’t bond us either, but you know she’s going to keep sinking her teeth into us until we’re covered in just as much blood as we are in her slick.”
My cock pulsed and I rolled over onto my back so it didn’t wake her up. I threw my arm over my eyes and sighed, wishing I could fall asleep without worrying Liam would do something stupid while I did.
The bed dipped and I lifted my arm just enough to see Liam gently pushing Lucy onto her back. He tucked the blanket around her and then slid off the bed. I fully expected him to go to the bathroom to wash up, but Liam came around to my side and sat on the edge.
“Thank you for staying.”
My arm fell to my side in shock and all I could do was stare at him. Liam Valor was thanking me. For something he never would have before.
“I know she wanted to take care of us, but I also know you better than you think I do.” Liam planted his hand next to my face and leaned down, searching my eyes with that dangerous look of his. “You asked her to stay here tonight, didn’t you?”
