CHAPTER 10

Lucy’s instincts were something else. She knew exactly what we needed and made sure we got it even when she had to be itching to go through the servers right now.

But she was fast asleep between us, her face in Liam’s chest and her hair spread across the pillow while he held onto her like she was a stuffed animal he couldn’t sleep without.

His hair was all disheveled and those dangerous red eyes watched me like a hawk through the white strands falling into his face.

I should feel nervous about staring into those eyes, but I must have some wires crossed because every time I looked at him when he was like this, I couldn’t help but feel captivated by how beautiful he was when he got all savage and animalistic.

Even more entrancing was that this crazy asshole didn’t treat me as a threat or like I was nothing. I was someone he wanted to protect and possess while somehow still seeing me as an equal.

Some wires must have been crossed in his brain too, because that shit was crazy.

Two or three alphas sharing an omega happened all the time, but a legacy alpha could rarely handle it unless it was something they were forced to learn how to do.

But Liam had never been taught to share.

Maybe it was a natural instinct for us to share the workload, and the way legacy alphas tried to force their bonds kept messing shit up. Who knows really.

All I knew was that there were a thousand things I wanted to ask him when he looked at me like this, but I kept my mouth shut because the answers didn’t matter. Liam was going to get what he wanted, and fuck what everybody else thought.

In my opinion, he was the epitome of what it meant to be a legacy alpha and soon, the whole city was going to figure out exactly what that meant.

Francisco Lopez was a close second, but even he didn’t have this look in his eyes that always made me think I was about to get my throat torn out just for existing.

“Why didn’t you take her to the server room?” Liam asked. He didn’t try to soften his voice, but for whatever reason, Lucy didn’t react to the harsh sound.

I kissed her shoulder and breathed in the decadent scent of my omega. “Lucy wanted to take care of us.”

Fucking Liam like that was something I’d been thinking about ever since we bonded Lucy, but the timing had never been right. I didn’t love that the first time we did it was used as a punishment, but she’d seemed satisfied.

And so did Liam.

“She goes nowhere alone anymore,” Liam told me. “Do you understand?”

I could respond, but he didn’t need me to. My opinion on this didn’t matter. It would happen regardless of what I thought and, honestly, I agreed with him. We were getting close, and the last thing I wanted was for someone to try to get to Lucy before we could finish this.

We had a lot of the pieces but we still didn’t know anything for sure and we had no idea why Gideon was killed.

If someone wanted something from Valor, all they had to do was take Lucy, and Liam would give it all up for her. I would help him do it too. Nothing else mattered and I didn’t like the idea of what could happen before we got her back.

My beautiful, enigmatic omega could die.

I closed my eyes and tried not to freak the fuck out.

Liam scooted closer to me and I breathed a little easier.

When I opened my eyes, he was still watching me like a hawk, but I could see more sanity in them than before.

“We’ll keep her safe,” he promised.

Liam relied on me, I knew that. But what I didn’t know was if he realized just how much I relied on him. His confidence was contagious and there was nothing I couldn’t do as long as he was with me.

He gave me the space I needed to feel secure and this was the only way I could live my life knowing every legacy alpha wanted me dead.

Liam Valor gave me the air I needed to breathe so I could hide what I was.
