Liam was silent for a long time, staring down at her with such a blank expression that I started worrying again, but he didn’t lash out at her. He just said, “Fine. Cassius can take you to Valor Enterprises tonight, but I expect you to be back before midnight.”

We watched him turn on his heel and leave the office once more, reeling in his aura and pheromones as he went.

I turned back to Lucy, studying her from head to toe as she glared after him and a flicker of disappointment came through the bond before it disappeared.

God, they were so alike it was fucking terrifying.

She’d wanted him to fight with her. Why? What the fuck was she thinking?

I decided to play her little game and see how far she’d let it go. “Eat something first. Then I’ll take you to Valor Enterprises.”

Lucy turned and flipped open the pizza box on the top, eyeing the contents. “You’re not going after Liam? I thought you were his dog.”

“I’m your dog now.” I grabbed her wrist when she reached for the pizza and yanked her against me so she’d finally look at me. “He’s a legacy alpha. A few hours alone won’t kill him.”

I’d even say he deserved it after throwing that little temper tantrum.

“You’re my priority,” I reminded her as I slid my hand up her neck, admiring the bond marks that were healing so nicely. “If you want to go to the server room right now, I’ll take you, but if that’s not what you want…”

Liam would want me to choose Lucy. Every time. I knew that.

But that didn’t mean I wasn’t terrified of what he would do if we left him here alone. I didn’t think he’d kill Dane, but he could use the opportunity to do something even stupider. Like visit his mother.

I tucked a stray curl behind Lucy’s ear, admiring the quirky little sliced oranges dangling from her ears. “What do you want me to do, Lucy? If you tell me to leave him here alone after everything he just learned, I will…but please, please don’t make me do that.”

She sighed and slid her fingers through my hair to soothe me. Until she yanked down so I was at her eye level. “How do you always know?”

I buried down my smile, glad to see it wasn’t just me who felt like this. “You always play him like a fiddle, sweetheart. How could I not know?”

Lucy didn’t smile but I could feel her amusement anyways, and she wrapped her arms around my neck, squeezing me tight. “I do need to go deal with the servers, but it would be better if Liam came with us. He’s just…hurting. He needs something I can’t give him without making him snap.”

I lifted her up and she wrapped her legs around my waist as I breathed in her decadent scent, letting that information settle. Lucy knew Liam just as well as I did it seemed.

“All those pent-up emotions,” she murmured, rubbing her nose against my scent glands. “He needs to fuck or fight it out, but grief makes it hard to fuck, so I have to push him into expressing his anger instead of trying to protect me from it.”

I sighed, wondering when I would ever fully grasp just how fucking smart she was. “At least he’s coming out of his denial.”

Lucy pulled back and stared up at me, her stormy grey eyes still darker than they normally were. I was pretty fucking sure I’d never get tired of staring at them and I kept catching myself looking for any possible changes in the color, but it was so subtle I was sure I was imagining it at this point.

“Cas…do you trust me?”

I couldn’t resist kissing her, not when she was being so earnest. The taste of her was intoxicating. “Not even a little bit, but with Liam? I trust you to the ends of the earth and back. It just scares me when you provoke him, but I’ll eventually learn to get used to it.”

She huffed a laugh and bit down on my lower lip before releasing me. “Wanna help me?”

I eyed her warily, not sure she understood how this worked. “He won’t kill you, but me? That’s always up in the air.”

And I was just as insane as they were because I really liked that about him.

“I don’t need you to provoke him.” Lucy slid down to her feet and grabbed three pizza boxes from the top. “I just need you to let him punish me so you can punish him.”

My thoughts buzzed as she shoved the boxes of pizza into my hands. I had no idea what she had planned and just thinking about all the ways I could punish them both…

She tapped my sudden hard-on and I flinched. “If I can get him to fight and then fuck, we can wear him out. I need him refreshed because I tend to run my interns ragged.”

Fuck me, I wanted to see her drag Liam around like a dog on a leash almost as badly as I wanted to fuck them both into oblivion.

I followed Lucy out of the office and up the stairs, knowing Liam wasn’t the only one our omega had on a leash.
