Cas brought his hand out from behind his back then and the black velvet box looked a lot like a jewelry box, but it was too big, even for a necklace.

“What’s that?” I pointed to the box, feeling nervous for some reason. “It’s not a diamond collar or something equally ridiculous, is it?”

“You really shouldn’t give us ideas,” Cas teased.

No, I really shouldn’t, but what the fuck would be in a jewelry box that size?

Liam took the box from Cas and opened it carefully. “I know we’re already bonded, but we were thinking…we want you to marry us too. ‘My wife’ has such a nice ring to it, don’t you think?”

I stared down at all the sparkling jewels and tried to make sense of what I was seeing.

No, it wasn’t a necklace or a collar but three different rows of diamond engagement rings. Fifteen of them.

“Are you insane? Why would I need so many rings? And you didn’t even ask if I wanted to marry you!”

“Well, I’m not taking no for an answer so what’s the point in asking?” Liam chuckled when I glared at him. “Pick one.”

I turned that glare on Cas and his smile widened until I could see his canines. “Pick one, Lucy or I’ll pick one out for you.”

Always giving me a choice even if it was just which ring and not yes or no.

“Maybe I don’t want to wear a ring.” I turned back to the tank and pretended like I wasn’t about to cry again.

“Are you saying you don’t want to marry us, or are you saying you want me to have someone bring us all the diamond collars they can find for you to choose from instead?” Liam took my hand and tugged me closer.

I looked over at the box of rings and tried not to think about how much money he was holding right now like it was nothing more than chump change. “Maybe I want you to ask and give me the illusion of choice. You’re always so demanding. It’s annoying.”

“Being demanding is my specialty – it’s part of my charm.” Liam leaned down, forcing me to look at him again. “Wouldn’t asking you be out of character? Wouldn’t that irritate you even more because I’m doing something different for no apparent reason?”

I rolled my eyes, annoyed he was right.

“Guess I’m just going to have to pick then.” Cas reached for the box and I snatched it out of Liam’s hand, trying not to panic.

“Fine, geez. I’ll pick one. God, you’re both insufferable.” I studied the rings, trying not to freak out about how many options there were. “There are too many to choose from though. Did you buy the whole fucking store? Jesus…this is too much, even for you two.”

“Pick five you really like. Liam and I will choose from there.” Cas took the box from me so I could really look at them. “But if you want all of them, you can have them all.”

“Don’t be ridiculous.” I pulled out a pretty rhombus cut diamond with little diamonds on the sides in pink gold. It had two clusters on the back too, creating a space between the main setting to really highlight the unusual shape. “Would you be mad if I didn’t wear this all the time? I’d rather just have matching wedding bands if I have to wear something every day.”

“You make it sound like such a chore,” Cas teased.

He gave the box to Liam and took the ring from me. I watched as he held out his hand, waiting patiently for me to give him mine.

This was…a lot. For some reason it felt even more absurd than letting them bond me. Maybe because bonds wore off eventually if they weren’t constantly exposed to their pheromones, but marriage?

I covered my bond marks with my hand, feeling the slight ridges of scar tissue where they sank their teeth into me on a regular basis. “Shouldn’t we have some kind of prenup? Or maybe…I don’t know, wait? It’s not like I’m going anywhere.”

“Lucy, baby.” Liam took my left hand and placed it in Cas’s. “We’re about to go to a legacy event to announce our new pack. I don’t want anyone to think you’re available. Or that we are. If you’re not going anywhere, then there’s no reason to put it off, is there?”

“Stop using logic against me.” I didn’t pull my hand out of Cas’s, not even when he slipped the ring on my finger. I just couldn’t physically make myself do it and I took a deep breath, letting it out slowly. “We should still have a prenup.”

“In what world would I ever let you leave me?” Liam leaned down and kissed my knuckles, giving them a little lick like a weirdo too. “You can have everything. It’s all yours. And if you ever have any reason to believe I’ll leave you, just kill me. You have my permission.”

That was not romantic. No sane person would be melting from such a crazy declaration but here I was, ready to cry again because he was just so fucking perfect.

“Francisco will make sure you legally own everything,” Cas assured me. “I’ll be the witness and we’ll write down what he said word for word and make him sign it, okay? I’ll make the same promise and Liam can witness it.”

“You two are insane.” I reached up and put an arm around each of their necks, squeezing them so hard they collided. “Fine…we can get married, but not until after the case is officially closed.”
