I wanted to be there when they announced our new pack so I could see how they all reacted when they realized exactly what that meant.

There would be a new legacy in the city and it wasn’t going to be run by one alpha, but two.

And one omega.

It made me really fucking nervous if I were being honest with myself, but Cas deserved this. He needed this.

If you want me to start a war, just say so. I’ll do anything for you.

Liam was a hopeless romantic but so was Cas. He might not be the one to start a war, but he’d finish it.

Hopefully, we wouldn’t need to do that.

Valor already agreed to swear allegiance to Valentine and Liam had gotten a meeting with the alpha of the Grimm pack for next week. I knew we weren’t going to be able to get them to defer to us, but a partnership was just as valuable.

It would be expensive to buy them out so that no one could hire them to kill anyone on our no-hit list, but we had the resources to make that happen thanks to Nicolette and Liam. And I was pretty sure Francisco would sweeten the deal if I asked him to since Frankie was also on that list.

The only one we couldn’t ensure peace with was Steele, but Frankie was working on that. Randolph Steele had agreed to her proposal and she was now officially engaged to River. They would make their debut tonight and I didn’t want to miss that either.

I wanted to talk to River in person if I could. I wanted to find out why she kept letting her father use her, but I didn’t think she’d tell me right away…maybe eventually, but I trusted Frankie to work her magic on her too.

We’d find out one way or another.

A knock on the door reminded me I still needed to get ready for the event.

“You can come in.” I set my laptop back on the shelf and popped up when Cas came through the door.

“I really like what you’ve done so far,” Cas he told me as he took it all in. “It’s going to look amazing when you’re done.”

Liam stepped out from behind Cas with a fish tank in his arms. “I do have one thing I think you should add though.”

I froze. “Is that what I think it is?”

Liam shook his head with a sad smile. “The axolotl you gave me died a few years ago, but this is her daughter…Pinky.”

Holy shit. He’d really kept it. Not only that, but he successfully bred her and kept them both alive for longer than I ever would have guessed. “Where was she?”

He set the tank on top of the dark purple dresser near the door that Cas had built and then painted the other day, watching as I crouched down to get a better look at the adorable creature who looked very happy even after being transported.

“She was in my room at my mother’s house,” he explained. “Warren made sure she was well taken care of, but I thought maybe you’d want her here.”

Pinky made a cute noise at me and then went to go hide in her little cave.

“I can’t believe you were able to keep her alive. They die so easily.” I smiled up at him, so grateful that I finally understood what it meant to be truly happy and it was all because of my alphas. “She looks just like her mom.”

Liam actually blushed, rubbing the back of his neck just like he used to when we were kids. “You talked about axolotls all the time. It wasn’t hard to remember how to take care of them when it was you who taught me everything I needed to know to keep them happy and healthy.”

Cas leaned against the doorframe and smiled, his eyes softening as he watched us. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t have to. I knew he’d done everything he could to help too.

I stood and peered down into the tank, wondering if they’d kept any notes on it. “Where’s the thermometer? They like cold water, but not too cold. Did you bring the heater? It still gets pretty cold at night.”

“Lucy.”

“The tank isn’t as long as it should be, but she seems happy. Do you think we should get a longer one? Axolotls like a lot of floor space.”

“Lucy.”

I turned and then froze when I saw both Liam and Cas looking at me like they wanted to devour me.
