The guard clears his throat and I turn, growling at him. He pales and steps back to the door, grimacing even more when Reid and Max shadow him. Neither one of them cracks a smile as they follow him slowly.

Court sighs. “It’s fine. You can leave. I’m perfectly safe with these guys.”

Max snorts. “I don’t think I like the way you phrased that.”

Courtney chuckles. “I’m sure.”

Reid and Max shepherd the inept security guard out the door and they close it in his face as he turns around and opens his mouth to say something.

“Thanks. We’ll take care of Ms. Monroe.”

Courtney chokes on Max’s words. “Really? I never said you could even stay in my office let alone stick around long enough to take care of me.”

I run my hands up and down her arms and struggle to keep my anger in check. “We actually need to discuss something important with you.”

Her red brow lifts. “I’m not sure I like the sounds of that.”

“It’s not gonna be fun that’s for sure,” Reid grunts and then he leads Court over to the leather couch in the room.

“Come on, princess. Let’s talk.”

She sits down, her green eyes wary and concerned. “Should I be worried? Is this about this morning again. I mean, I told you I had to get to work and I told you that as far as I was concerned it was one night.”

I want to ask her if she’s changed her mind but I feel like that would be pushing her a little too far too fast.

Not that I’m against that on the whole but I have a feeling with the rest of this conversation that might just send her running again.

I sigh and run my hand through my hair, sitting down on the coffee table in front of the couch while Reid and Max slip onto the couch on each side of her.

“Okay. How well do you know that Evan guy?” Reid shoots me a strange look, his brow raised. That isn’t how we intended to start this conversation. But I’ve changed my mind. There’s something skeezy that that guy is trying to hide under his comparatively innocuous exterior.

I think he’s more dangerous than he looks and I’m not so sure that he’s not the mysterious driver from this morning.

But what could he possibly want with following Courtney around when she’s not at work.

She jumps when I grasp her hands and then glares at me, pulling them out of my hands. “Evan was my Dad’s best friend and he’s been there for me since I was born. I would think it’s pretty apparent how well I know him. He’s a good guy.

I nod my head. “Okay. We’ll table that discussion for right now. But there is something that concerns us about this morning.”

“Spit it out, Cash,” she snarls.

“Okay, here goes.” I glance over at Reid and Max, both of whom don’t look entirely confident with how this conversation is going. “Someone was following your car when you left Club Sin this morning.”

Her eyes widen and her mouth falls open, immediately bringing back thoughts of last night and how good she felt all around me. Her body is made for me and my friends. We’re a brotherhood and that brotherhood was made to love one Courtney Monroe until the day one or all of us die.

“How do you know that?” Her eyes narrow and I really wish she hadn’t asked that question or at least hadn’t asked it so quickly. I was hoping to sneak that into the conversation.

Blowing out a breath, I pause and just blurt it out because no matter how much I try to soften it, she’s gonna be pissed.

“Because we actually had some guys that were following you and your driver this morning and they saw the other car in front of them. They got their license plate and it’s a fleet car from this company.”

She sits up straight and holds up her hand. “Are you telling me that you’ve had somebody following me? For how long?”

Dammit! She’s really good at figuring out the worst questions to ask. At least for us.

“Since we took over the company six months ago.” Reid and Max both cringe a bit when she jumps up and stomps back and forth across the room.

“Have you three lost your minds?!” Her voice is on a level that could hurt dogs two towns over. Sharp and shrill enough to make their ears bleed.
