CHAPTER 20
Windsor
“Okay, but read this part,” Arden, Tanner and Tucker’s younger sister, sighs as she sits across from me at my desk while her brothers and husbands are locked away in their office.
“The Graham brothers have made no hesitation in announcing their engagement to Windsor James over the weekend and are now planning an extravagant but quick wedding to take place at the same resort where Miss James was poisoned and nearly killed by an unknown assailant. Their love appears to know no bounds as they explore a relationship triad and shower the woman they’ve chosen with gifts and love.”
“Isn’t it just romantic?” She grins at me as she takes a sip of her iced peach green tea.
“How did they even get all those details?” I respond, grabbing the paper as she’s about to hand it to me. It’s been almost a week since they proposed, and everything feels calm for the moment. “Won’t this send the person after me into a tailspin or something?” I mutter that to myself.
“I think that was the point,” Arden says, giving me a duh look as the elevator dings, alerting us to someone’s arrival.
As the doors begin to open, I stand with a smile on my face, prepared to welcome whoever is here. Lux steps out, a giant grin on her face as she holds up the paper. Another woman stands behind her with a pinched expression, looking pissed.
I aim my attention at her. “Welcome to Graham Shipping & Exports. I’m Windsor. How can I help you?”
Her eyes blaze with fire and rage as she meets my stare, and I grow uneasy. Flicking her long, straight blond hair over her shoulder, she stops in the middle of the foyer, and her eyes flick around the room, a glare landing on Lux and Arden as she takes them in.
“I’m here to see my boyfriends.” Her husky voice is seductive with a hint of venom and scorn as she eyes me up and down.
“Boyfriends?” Arden crosses her arms as she sits back in her chair and watches the woman critically.
“Tanner and Tucker Graham.” A triumphant smile glimmers on her overdone red lips when she catches me frowning.
“Yeah, okay, sure.” Arden rolls her eyes.
“Just a second.” I force a smile this time as I stride towards their office. Knocking lightly, I open the door and close it behind me. “There’s a woman here”—all eyes are on me—“claiming she’s here to see her boyfriends.” My eyes move slowly between my men.
“Excuse me?” Tucker growls, eyes narrowing as he saunters towards me. “What the fuck did you just say?” I’ve seen a ton of different reactions and emotions from Tuck before, but this is new. Fear and rage co-mingle with each other. If it weren’t for the fact that I know they’re completely obsessed and dedicated to me, the fear might worry me. But I knew she was lying and trying to cause problems. What I don’t know is why now.
“I know she isn’t,” I quickly reassure them both. Tucker brushes a finger along my cheek, down my jaw, and coasts across my rapidly beating pulse before kissing the side of my head. The sweet gesture doesn’t match his intensity, but I feel every ounce of love he has for me in the tender action.
“Good.” Tanner scowls at the doors as he cups my cheek in his hand. “You know you’re it for us, right?” Our eyes lock, and if I didn’t know before, the possessive way he hooks me in would have told me.
“I do.” Turning my head, I kiss the palm of his hand. His features soften before we hear a commotion and the doors swing open.
Arden immediately goes to her husbands while Lux leans against the frame, watching the woman who just intruded as I’m trapped between Tucker and Tanner, their hands all over me.
“What the fuck are you doing here, Samantha?” Tucker is vibrating with anger. Slightly shocked that they know her, I do my best to calm my features.
“Don’t be like that, baby.” She steps forward, thinks better of it, and stops in the middle of the room.
“Why are you here?” Tanner repeats, his tone cooler, less angry than Tucker’s but no less unwelcome in her arrival.
“Well.” Her eyes dart down to me before landing on Tanner. “I saw who you were dating and knew I had to step in before you made a mistake.” Lifting up the paper with our engagement announcement, she sneers, “I see I’m almost too late.”
“You are too late,” I tell her, gripping a hand from both men and holding them to my chest, over my heart. “I don’t know who you are or why you think you’re welcome here, but I promise Tan and Tuck are permanently off the market.”
Too late, I realize I said the exact wrong thing as she pulls out a revolver and begins firing while running away.
Tanner
The sound of a gunshot registers before the realization that a weapon has been drawn. I see Boston and Dare take Arden to the floor, protecting her, and Lux drops and darts behind a desk. Tucker hits the ground as bullets whizz by, and I cover Windsor, positioning her under my body as I watch blood pool under Tucker's back.
“Fuck,” I hiss, keeping a tight hold on Windsor before she notices. He’s groaning, so that’s a good sign. “Where the fuck is she?” I shout out, hoping someone saw the bitch run and which way.
“Stairs,” Dare growls.
