“What about your name?” I breathed, my eyes rolling a little as he hit a spot so deep inside me I nearly fell apart.
He stilled for a moment, and I rolled my hips, urging him to continue. His gaze heated, burning with an emotion I felt ignite in my chest. “My name? You want to take my name?”
I resisted the urge to turn into the pillow, to bite down on it to hold in my moans. “Yes,” I managed. “I belong to you, too.”
Love shattered through me, his dark magic rustling awake. “It will be a scandal.”
“Even better.” I flashed him a grin, the most I could manage with him so deep inside me, so deep that I felt him in my soul.
The blue of his eyes flared, one bright flash, before they settled into midnight. “Thea Rousseaux.”
“Yes.” I gasped, reaching for him. Julian shifted his weight, hands twining with mine and pinning them beside our head. “Our family name.”
His eyes burned into mine as he processed what I meant. That the life we were building wouldn’t be alone. That I’d chosen not only him but his family. That his duty was my own. That it was my privilege to share his bed, his life, his name.
Even if I would never get enough of stolen moments like this where we belonged to only one another.
CHAPTER FIFTY-EIGHT
JULIAN
“Last chance to run.” Sebastian knocked into me. Turning his back to the guests, he swiped a flask from his breast pocket.
I rolled my eyes but took a swig before passing it to Lysander. “Why would I run?”
He laughed and clapped a hand on my shoulder. “You’re in so much trouble.”
It was pointless trying to explain it to him. He wouldn’t understand unless he was the one standing in my place. Maybe someday he would. My throat tightened and I realized, looking at my brothers, that I hoped they all would—that they would all find the joy I’d found in my mate’s arms. As for getting married, there was only one concern preoccupying me.
“What is taking so long?” I grumbled. I didn’t want to run. I wanted to be married.
“Jacqueline’s getting her ready. That will take a while—and you know there will be a big entrance.” He pointed at the room around us for emphasis, the dreamlike decor proof that, thanks to my best friend and my mother, this wedding would be well-remembered for centuries to come.
The courtyard had been transformed into a fairytale. The red roses that climbed the walls were now white, their leaves and vines dusted silver. Their powdery scent floated on the air and faint lights sparkled between the flowers, an enchantment of some type that looked a bit like fireflies dancing. Chairs lined the space in neat lines, frosted ivy and candles draped at every aisle seat, and, down the center, an ivory carpet blanketed with pure, white petals.
“It’s over-the-top,” Sebastian said, leaning against the floral arch, dripping with more roses and lush peonies in full bloom that rose over our heads. His gloved fingers toyed with some of the frosted ivy twined through it with a sigh.
“I dare you to tell her that,” I said to him.
Sebastian held up his hands. “I don’t have a death wish.”
“I don’t know. It’s pretty hard to rile her up at the moment,” Lysander said meaningfully. “Apparently, mating puts you in a very good mood.”
Sebastian snorted, hitching his thumb at me. “He tried to take off my head over it once.”
“I hadn’t actually sealed the mating bond yet,” I reminded him. “I was in a great mood after I did.”
His look told me he had doubts.
But it was hard to doubt the glow that Jacqueline and Camila had worn when I saw them last night while Thea spoke with her mother. It had been the first I’d seen them since the attack, having refused to leave Thea’s side until she woke. Their shared scent had been a momentary shock but a good one. My sister and best friend were spoken for now...
“I need to find mates for all of you,” I threatened, shoving my hands into my pockets.
Sebastian’s laugh earned him the attention of every nearby guest, but Lysander barely managed a smile.
Time for a new subject.
“Hadrian and Laurel look uncomfortable.” Lysander nodded to where our niece and nephew sat in the front row. Celia hovered nearby, tasked with monitoring them.
