He inclined his head towards me. “You saved me a bullet.”

I threw back the rest of my drink and stood. “It’s getting late. I will meet you at the warehouse tomorrow morning.” I turned before he could say anything, effectively dismissing him, and strode over to my wife.

I leaned down and gripped her chin. Her stunned eyes met mine.

“Time to go, tesoro.” She nodded and moved towards the door, but stayed silent. I maintained a calm, confident expression, but my insides were twisting. Was she scared of me now?

Matteo was silent the entire car ride home. He kept my hand clenched in his, refusing to let go even as we got out of the car and went up to our apartment.

“I’ll go to Enzo’s and pick up Noodle for the night,” Angelo said as we exited the elevator.

I barely had the chance to say “thank you” before Matteo practically pulled me inside and shut the door.

He dropped my hand and took a few steps away, wearing an unreadable expression.

“So…” I said, breaking the silence. “You shot my father’s second-in-command. In a restaurant.”

Matteo crossed his arms, his scowl fierce. “I would do it again.”

“Is that right?”

“Yes.”

I crooked my finger at him. “Come here.”

That muscle in his jaw ticked, and he huffed a long sigh. I bit my lip to hide my smile. He lasted a few seconds before he walked towards me. I raised my arms and he leaned down, allowing me to circle his neck. He lifted me in one swift motion, his hands cupping my ass.

I ran my nose down his face, breathing him in. “You seem to be laboring under the delusion, husband, that I am upset about what you did.” I smiled at the flash of surprise on his face. “I’ve had very few people in my life stick up for me, and never like that.” I cupped his face, running my thumbs down his cheek before pressing my lips to his. “You’ve earned yourself a reward.”

He pressed my back against the wall, and I whimpered as his cock rocked against my core. “And what will my reward be, wife?”

I ran my fingers through his hair. “Whatever you want. Have your way with me.”

“This is quite a dangerous offer.”

“Why is that?”

“You’ve just given me strong motivation to shoot a lot of men, tesoro, just so I can claim my prize.”

I laughed against his skin. “Good thing you can claim me anytime—no bullets required—so please don’t shoot more people on my account.”

“I will do as I see fit.” His tone was disgruntled, and I squeezed him tight as he carried me to our room.

He flicked our bedside lamp on, the soft glow illuminating the bed as he laid me down on it.

“Have I told you how beautiful you look?” He kissed down my neck and across my collarbone.

“You might have mentioned it.”

“I will never say it enough. No words will ever be sufficient to describe your beauty.”

I blinked furiously. I would not cry at his sweet words.

He brought his lips back to mine, deepening our kiss, and I wrapped myself around him, needing to do whatever I could to merge our bodies. His taste and scent surrounded me as he ran firm hands down my skin. He pulled away with a curse.
