So strong.
I hated that she was ever hurt. Ever scared.
But I loved how she leaned on me, how she had faith in me despite all she’d been through.
I would never let her down. I’d make it my life’s work to give her and Sammy the life they deserved. One they could be proud of.
Our condo was located inside a building with the best security available. Ellie was aware of at least some of the extra steps I took to ensure the safety of my small but precious family.
Maybe Ellie wasn’t in love with me yet. But she smiled at me, and she scooted her chair over so I could sit beside her. And even now, she melted into my side as I draped an arm around her shoulder.
“Was everything good?”
“Oh, yeah. Delicious. Are you hungry?”
“Nah. My mom stuffed me and Sammy with cookies before bed,” I told her, grinning sheepishly.
“Did you save any for me?” she asked, and I narrowed my eyes.
“No, I figured you’d have some fancy dessert here.”
“Come here,” she said.
“Why?”
“Cause I want to taste those cookies,” she whispered.
Then my shy, sweet, adorable wife shocked the shit out of me and kissed me in front of everyone.
This wasn’t the same close-lipped kiss I’d given her upon arrival. This was different. It was lips and tongues and teeth.
I ignored the wolf whistles and the applause. Too caught up in the feel of her plump lips working against mine.
Slowly, she withdrew her mouth, eyes sparkling with mischief, and my heart thudded heavily in my chest.
“Good?” I asked.
“So good.”
Heat filled me, and she turned her attention to some story Marat was animatedly telling. But she leaned her weight against my side, and I breathed in her warm scent as a feeling of rightness settled deep inside my soul.
I couldn’t believe she was really there with me. Like really with me. But she was. And it was fantastic. Better than I imagined.
Ellie was my missing link. That missing piece to my puzzle that made me whole.
The second I saw her, I knew she was the one. So, I did what anyone in my position would do.
I inserted myself into her life.
Okay, I fucking stalked her.
But only with the best intentions.
I fantasized about her, for sure.
But never once in all my planning, plotting, and dreaming did I think she would so readily thrust herself into my arms.
It was the greatest honor of my life.
