“When do you want to get married?”

“What?”

“We can fly to Vegas. Or we can have a small ceremony right here with just a few people. I have friends at city hall. We can have all the paperwork and the wedding license signed in time for the weekend.”

“You would do that?” she asked.

I nodded.

Fuck. Yes.

I would do that for her. That and so much more.

It was probably a good thing Ellie had no idea what I was willing to do to secure her as mine.

“Before you agree, I have to ask you something,” I said, and she nodded. “Is this the way you want to do it, or do you just want me to make him stop?”

“W-what do you mean?”

Her voice wasn’t more than a whisper, and I could practically hear her heart pounding.

I shouldn’t have asked that. Shouldn’t have given her a way out. But it was too late now.

So, I continued.

“You know what I mean, Ellie. Do you want me to make your ex stop?”

Thunder pounded in my brain as I waited for her to respond.

The woman of my dreams had just asked me to marry her, and like an asshole I offered her another option.

I guess what they said was true, love was blind, deaf, and dumb.

So fucking dumb.

CHAPTER FIVE ANDRES

Ellie blinked slowly before sliding her hand across the table. She touched mine, holding it, then gripping it, and I closed my eyes for a moment just to steady myself.

Fuck.

I never realized how good it would feel to have her reach for me. I wished it was for something other than this, but I would take it.

I would take it and hold on to it with both fucking hands.

“I don't want Gary to ever have the power to threaten or hurt my son. But he's Sammy’s father. Plus, he’s a well-known businessman. People would notice if something happened. And, Andres, I don’t want you to get in trouble.”

“Okay. Then let’s do it. Let’s get married. And you will let me deal with this for you, won’t you Ellie?”

“You would really do that?” she asked, wide-eyed and so fucking beautiful she stole my breath.

I nodded, and she inhaled, looking down at her hands.

“Yes, I would do that. I promise I won't let him hurt either of you ever again. Do you trust me?” I asked, my heart practically hammering me to death.

Christ. She’s so precious.

Her answer was so goddamn important to me.
