Page 118 of His Wild Attraction

No one noticed the drama ensuing right there in broad daylight. No one came around the building to ask questions. And no one got involved because we were in the City, and people minded their own business in the city.

Life was hard, sure, but so what? Everyone had their baggage. One crying kid wasn’t noteworthy. One ex couple having a spat wasn’t the end of the world.

But to me, this could be. And I wasn’t going to let anything happen to my baby boy.

“Shut up, you brat,” Gary sniveled and dropped Sammy on the hard ground.

“No!” I yelled.

The gun in Gary’s hand was too close to Sammy’s head. I made a run at the same time someone behind me roared. Gary jerked his hand up, he had his leg lifted as if to kick Sammy.

I couldn’t let him do that. I ran harder. Time seemingly frozen until I reached him.

A sound I didn’t recognize spilled from my lips as I used all my strength to tackle Gary to the ground, grabbing the hand holding the gun.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone grab Sammy off the floor. I prayed my boy was safe as I tore the gun from Gary’s hands and spun it around, aiming for his face.

Then I squeezed the trigger.

CHAPTER THIRTY-SEVEN ANDRES

We pulled up to the playground just as I caught sight of Ellie running. I jumped out of the car, chasing after my wife.

I yelled. I know I did. But she didn’t or couldn’t hear me.

Fear like I’d never known pumped through my veins.

When I rounded the squat brick building and saw Gary with a gun aimed at my son. All rationale left my brain.

Pure, undiluted fury moved faster than lightning, louder than thunder, consuming me until I was a living, breathing personification of vengeance.

Ellie charged at Gary, and that piece of shit dropped Sammy onto the ground.

I ran.

I wasn’t going to get there in time.

Fuck.

I flicked my gaze at Ellie, knowing what she would want, and wishing like fuck I could tear myself in two.

I reached Sammy first.

“You’re okay,” I said as I clutched him to my chest.

Adrik, Marat, and Josef were right behind me, and I looked up to find the latter sliding to a stop beside me just as a gunshot rang out.

I handed Sammy to Josef and spun around, my heart in my fucking throat.

“ELLIE!” I roared, dropping to my knees, and grabbing the gun from her hand.

“Andres? Oh, my God! Andres? Sammy?”

I pulled her into my embrace, running my hands over her body to check for injury.

“Are you okay? Angel, are you hurt?” I asked, my voice breaking.

Someone had called the police. I heard the sirens in the background, But I didn’t give two shits.
