He raises an eyebrow. “Are you going to let me finish?”
“Yes, yes, sorry,” I say, sitting down on my bed. “Go ahead.”
He takes another sip of his drink. “Jerry borrowed a lot of money from the 37th Street Bratva, and apparently he spent it all making weapons for the Devil’s Kingdom. We’re on good terms with them now. Don’t worry. The 37th Street Bratva… not so much.”
I cross my arms. “So, they’re going to keep coming back to try to kill me?”
“I’ll be honest,” he says, leaning forward. “I didn’t know they would get that bold. I think you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s more likely they were sending a warning, but I’ll take care of them. They’re not that scary.”
“Well, I’m scared,” I say.
“I will protect you,” he says, standing up suddenly. “You won’t have to worry about anything.”
“I don’t want to be here,” I say, standing up with him. “I’m sorry, Kostin, but I don’t want to be with you. It was stupid enough to go along with your wild scheme in the first place.”
He frowns. “You don’t mean that.”
“I do,” I say, my voice trembling as I speak. “I don’t want to have anything to do with you anymore. You put me in danger, and that’s unforgivable.”
“Bonnie,” he says, reaching his hand out.
I move away from him, scared that he’ll be able to use his charm to convince me not to be angry. I need to think about my boys now. I have to listen to what Kate said, too. I can’t go around getting myself killed. It’s not fair to anyone.
“I care about you,” Kostin says, trying his bullshit again. Won’t he learn that this was all a stupid game? None of this was meant to be genuine. It was just about sex.
“You don’t care. You only want me for sex. I can see right through your façade,” I reply, glaring at him. “I’m sorry, but this is over.”
