“Don’t worry, I peel him away every once in a while, so that he can eat.”
I laugh. “Perfect.”
“Anything else you need?”
“No,” I say, letting out a sigh. “I guess that’s it.”
“Take care of yourself, please,” she says. “I mean it. If you’re mixed up with some crazy shit, you’re going to regret it.”
“I’m not,” I assure her. “You don’t need to worry.”
“Okay, bye, Bonnie. Call me again soon.”
“I’ll try to call tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
“Bye.”
I turn the phone off, cringing as it lets out a loud chime. Jesus, I thought I had turned the volume down. This thing just doesn’t want to give up on alerting Kostin that I have a contact on the outside.
I wrap the phone with my clothes, when I take them off, hoping to muffle the sound if it decides to make any more. Then, after adjusting the temperature to something no human being should put their skin through, I step into the steamy shower to wash away the stress of the day.
