“Not going to budge on that one.” Daddy sounded like he’d found a limit that he was going to put on his list, but it was hard to be nervous about it when he was so funny. “I think we’ve established that the diaper trash can will be someplace very private and I will handle that. I think a reasonable limit would be that it’s emptied when she’s not around.”
Oh, yeah…she didn’t live here.
That seemed sensible, so I nodded again.
Daddy understood what I was trying to say and kissed my head. “Perfect. We’ll work out the fine print there but I think we’re making progress. What else?”
That was obvious to me and made me realize I needed to let Daddy wake up more before bombarding him with worries.
“Oh yes, the diaper. Not sure how I forgot that part.” I wasn’t either, but I didn’t say that as he kissed my head again. “You don’t seem to remember my putting one on you after your bath, but I did. Then I changed you again right after you fell asleep.”
I thought he’d have more to say about that part but his huff and frustration surprised me. “You’re not getting enough sleep. You were exhausted.Unreasonably so.”
Oops.
Yep, that was what a Daddy would focus on.
“Sorry, Daddy.” Petting his chest, I snuggled the rest of my body closer around him, more worried about the sleeping part than the diaper issue. “I get distracted.”
With work.
With shows.
With the internet.
With my bubble game.
With my coloring books.
Okay, maybe he had a point.
“Maybe…maybe you could call me at a certain time every night and tuck me in over the phone?” It’d be harder to make bad decisions that way. “Then you could make sure I was being good.”
And it wouldn’t be too much attention.
It wouldn’t even be like I was moving in or something.
“I think that’s a very good idea.” Daddy’s hand came up to stroke my head. “And we’ll figure out some rules and consequences to help with that.”
Ugh.
“Don’t sigh. It was your idea.” He had a point but I did it again anyway.
“I like attention, Daddy.” Yes, I liked that part of the plan. It was just the rest that was going to come back and bite me in the ass. “You’re good at giving me attention.”
His chest jerked but he didn’t laugh. “There are a variety of ways to give you attention, but right now I think you need the food and drink kind.”
Oh yes.
But there was one thing we had to focus on first.
“Um, Daddy…” Hmm. “I have to go potty.”
He shrugged.
“Okay.” Kissing my head, he kept cuddling me and shifted me slowly so my lips were where they’d been asking to be since I’d woken up pressed against his chest. “You’ve been smelling me and nuzzling me since you stopped worrying, baby boy. It’s not as subtle as you think it is.”
Oops.
