“Those ladies are up to something,” Mercury says once I close the door.
They definitely are but I’m not sure what. If they want me to stay with Gibson, why do they keep bringing up the possibility of him cheating? Do they want me to break up with him because they have another man picked out for me?
Not happening. I’m not dating anyone but Gibson. He’s the only man who’s caught my eye since I found out my ex was cheating. The only man to cause me to question my decision to take a break from men. The only man I think about when I’m naked in the shower.
I blow out a breath and force my thoughts away from Gibson in the shower.
This relationship is fake. Gibson and I are not dating. As soon as we both get what we want from the situation, it’ll be over.
I ignore how my stomach sours at the reminder. I must be hungry is all.
Chapter 15
Kiss – the second best way to stop a woman from shouting at you
Gibson
“Anxious to see Mercy?” Dylan asks as we drive back to Winter Falls.
We finished a week of concerts and are on our way back home. I thought the idea of doing little concert tours a week at a time was weird when Cash and Dylan suggested it, but it’s actually nice to get a break. Playing seven shows in seven days is exhausting.
“Why do you ask?”
Dylan nods to my knee. Huh. I didn’t realize it was bouncing.
“He’s not anxious to see Mercy. He’s anxious to do Mercy,” Jett jokes.
I glare at him. “Don’t talk about Mercy that way.”
Jett groans. “Are you going to be boring now, too? Since you’ve fallen in love?” He feigns retching.
“I’m not in love.”
“Sure, you’re not.”
I’m not. I like Mercy. She’s cool and fun. But in love?
I open my mouth to deny being in love again but I’m supposed to be dating Mercy. Do people who are dating want to fall in love?
I don’t want to fall in love and get married. I’ve seen what it does to people. No thanks.
“I thought you were off to San Diego for the surfing competition?” I ask since I’m done discussing me and love.
“I need to pick up my gear and then I’m out of here.” He checks his watch. “My flight leaves in a few hours.”
“Why didn’t you ask Aurora to handle your gear? It would have saved you a flight.”
He scowls and glances away.
I chuckle. Jett’s easy to tease when it comes to Aurora. Those two need to get a room already.
“Home,” Fender grumbles as he parks in front of his house.
Leia, Indigo, and Virginia are standing on the porch waiting for us. I feel a twinge of disappointment when I realize Mercy isn’t with them. But then the door opens and there she is.
She’s wearing a short skirt with her cowboy boots. My eyes hone in on those bare legs. They appear a mile long. I want those toned legs wrapped around my waist while I pound into her. My cock twitches in agreement.
I start to smile but stop when she scowls at me. Why is she scowling? What’s wrong?
