“Tell me something I don’t know,” I mumble.
“But you don’t want his house because you don’t want him to think you’re taking care of him for money.”
I cross my arms over my chest. “I’m not taking care of him for some reward.”
“I know, sassy girl. You hide a soft heart underneath your sass.”
“What’s your point?” I ask since I’m not discussing having a soft heart.
“I want you to have Mercury’s house, he wants you to have his house, and I know you want the house.”
“You know everything, do you?”
“I know this is the first place you’ve ever felt you had a home.” He steps closer. “It’s the same for me. This is the first home I’ve had in over a decade. I don’t want to lose it.”
“What did you do?”
“I solved the problem. I bought the house from Mercury. And Mercury bought this tiny house.”
“Mercury sold you his house?”
“Technically, he sold it to you since it’ll be in your name.”
“I can’t afford a mortgage. I’m barely handling the payments for the garage as it is.”
Gibson palms my neck and squeezes. “Mercury doesn’t want you to repay the money he gave you for the garage.”
“I don’t accept charity.”
“It’s not charity. Mercury wants you to have the money.” He kisses my forehead. “He doesn’t have any other relatives. And he feels bad for never contacting your mother. He feels guilty he didn’t help you when you were growing up.”
“It wasn’t his responsibility.”
“He feels otherwise.”
My eyes itch and I glance away. Uncle Mercury hasn’t come out and said it but I know he wishes he’d been there for me when I was a child. It means the world to me to know he wishes he could have shared the burden with me.
“You want to thank him for all he’s done for you? This is the way.”
My brow furrows. “By accepting his money?”
“Yes.”
I blow out a breath. “Fine.”
“You’ll accept the arrangement?”
He doesn’t wait for me to respond before melding his lips to mine. A spark ignites in my belly when we touch. It always does. I hope it always will.
“I love you, sassy girl.”
“And I love you, guitar man.”
There’s a knock on the door. “Uncle Mercury says no having sex in his house,” Indigo shouts through the door.
I groan and bury my face in Gibson’s shoulder. “What is she doing here?”
“I’m your bestie! Of course, I’m here.”
Gibson sighs. “Leia saw the tiny house being delivered and phoned to find out what’s happened. And then the gossip gals showed up. Things kind of snowballed from there.”
I chuckle. “Living in Winter Falls will never be boring.”
Gibson pinches my chin and lifts my head up. “Life with you will never be boring. I love you.”
“I’ll never get tired of hearing those words.”
“Good since I plan to tell you I love you on a daily basis.”
