Page 10 of Blindside Love

Tom just needed me because of something we both fucked up, but I know he always secretly blamed me for it. It was one of those relationships where what the public saw was much different than what we experienced at home. Regardless of what anyone says, marrying a guy just because you got pregnant unexpectedly is not a good reason to get married. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, you can’t force anyone into acting like a parent. We got married because our moms are best friends, and together they decided they didn’t want their reputation tainted by their children having a child out of wedlock.

I still think this belief is barbaric and can’t believe I let them convince me to marry the sleaze ball.

Needless to say, we weren’t a good match. I want someone who loves me, cares for me, and desperately needs me for my mind, my body, and my soul. I want a man who sets my body on fire with a single look, touch, or even just a word.

That was definitely not Tom. Tom wanted the closest warm hole that didn’t belong to his wife, but he wanted me to pretend it wasn’t happening. Now he’s trying to make me take the fault for his mistakes, and I fucking refuse.

“It’s time for you to go, Tom,” I say, unable to keep the annoyance from my voice.

“Why? So you can go fuck those two guys?” he sneers, looking down at me like I’m beneath him.

“No, Tom, I don’t fuck people when I should be spending time with my daughter, that’s your M.O.,” I say with a smile before turning to walk toward Addy. “Besides, the one on the left kept me up all night; I’ll definitely be satisfied for a while.”

With that, I turn and grab Addy to meet Trevor and his friend at the elevator. Tom waits just a moment before stomping out of my building like a toddler throwing a tantrum. Trevor isn’t watching him, though. Instead, he’s staring at me intently as I walk over hand in hand with my daughter.

I bet he’s not gonna offer to let me ride his dick now.

“Hey,” I say nervously as his eyes bounce back and forth between Addy and me. She’s hugging my leg, but not out of nervousness this time. My girl’s a snuggler and she missed her mama. I love it.

“Who’s this?” Trevor asks as he leans down to Addy’s level.

“I’m Addison, but you can call me Addy. All my friends do. Are you my mommy’s friend? You could be my friend too. We just moved here!”

Addy is always so happy. It’s adorable. I’m so thankful for how outgoing she is; it definitely made the idea of moving out of the only home she’s ever known much easier. I know it’ll be an adjustment, but still, at least I know she’s not shy and is willing to meet new people.

“Hi, Addy. I’m Trevor. As long as it’s okay with your mommy, I would love to be your friend,” he says, looking up at me for approval, and I can’t help but smile and nod. “How old are you?”

Addy beams up at Trevor, loving the attention. “I’m five, how old are you?”

First, he’s angry at the way Tom was speaking to me, and now he’s standing here meeting my daughter and being so damn sweet to her that it makes me wonder if Natalie was right. That there are good guys out in this world, and I’ve just been wasting my time on someone who wasn’t worthy.

I can’t risk it, though. It’s not just my heart I have to think about.

Her daddy is already breaking hers. I can’t let another man do the same.

“I’m much, much older than you,” Trevor says with a smile. “This is my friend, Rex. In fact, he actually has a daughter your age,” Trevor says.

“Really?! What’s her name?” Addy asks excitedly.

Something about watching a dad light up at the mention of his daughter makes my heart swell. He’s beaming with pride just at Trevor’s mention of her, and I love that—even if it does hurt knowing my daughter doesn’t have that.

“Her name is Rory. Maybe next time we’re at Trevor’s, you two can meet. I know she’d love that,” Rex says, eyeing me cautiously the entire time, and it makes me respect him so much more that he’s trying not to overstep. The fact that he actually cares about that means a lot, especially with him taking the time to talk to my daughter. I feel my eyes welling with tears. Her own father doesn’t give her the time of day, but these two men are making her the center of attention.

Goddamn, I've been emotional lately.

“Mommy, mommy! Can we?!” Addy begs.

“I don’t see why not.” I smile down at her, looking up to see both of them smiling at us.

“Awesome, I’ll get in touch next time they’re over,” Trevor says as he presses the elevator button.

It opens immediately, and we all step on. I do my best to stop myself from remembering that the last time Trevor was in this elevator, just twenty-four hours before, it was with my damn vibrator. The thought alone has my cheeks reddening, and I peek out of the corner of my eye and see Trevor watching me, a knowing smirk on his face as he shoots me a wink that sends all sorts of excitement to my core.

Addy wraps her arms around my leg and stares at me with a look only a sassy five-year-old could pull off. “Mommm,” she grumbles. “How will Mr. Trevor let you know when my friend is there?”

“What do you mean?”

“Does he know how to call you? He does have your number, right?”
