“Don’t roll your eyes. That’s also rude.”
“I didn’t. You’d know that if you’d open yours.”
He cracks one eye open and gives a short laugh. “Oh they were open. I definitely saw quite a bit of you and the way you were staring.” He takes a death breath. “Besides, even after I closed my eyes, I could feel your eyes on me. You most definitely rolled your eyes at being caught. I’ve learned some of your ticks, Denise, I’d bet money on when you’re gonna roll your eyes.” He opens both eyes and reaches over to take his phone off the nightstand. “How’d you sleep?”
I can feel my skin turning red, and hate how I always seem to blush around him. I turn my head, so I don’t have to make eye contact when speaking. “I slept well.”
I feel eyes on me so, despite myself, I turn to him. The way I’m dressed, there’s not much left to the imagination.
“Good. I should get ready for work.”
When he tosses the comforter, not much is left to the imagination on him either. He’s only in a pair of tight black briefs. He uses his hand to cover his front as he casually struts off to the bathroom, chuckling an apology. Keaton calls out from the bathroom, “I wasn’t expecting to see you until after I got ready this morning! Not that I’m complaining.”
I’m not complaining either.
I go back into the other bedroom and get dressed. Grabbing my clothes from last night, I use the bathroom across the hall to do what I can with my appearance. I’ve just about finished when Keaton walks in wearing his work shirt and jeans. As our eyes lock in the mirror, my stomach flips.
He takes a deep breath and releases it. “Your birthday gift is this weekend, if you still want to attend.”
I can’t believe I’d almost forgotten. I didn’t completely forget about the show, but it’s just that I lost track of time with all the chaos. A huge smile stretches my face. “I can’t believe that’s this weekend! Tomorrow!”
I remember what else he got me for my birthday. That sexy dance. That seems like forever ago. Somehow, after everything that happened and everything still happening, I’m back in Keaton Sloan’s apartment. One way or another, we keep coming back to each other. It’s almost like I’m destined to be here.
