I stood there, wringing my hands together, suddenly nervous. “I-I don’t know what to do.” Daddy T cocked his head to the side, and I giggled. “You look like a puppy when you do that.”
Yay, happy Daddy T was back and laughing at me. “You are a ray of sunshine. Come here.” I did a little shimmy over to him and stopped about a foot away, but he wasn’t having that. He wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me toward him. “You want to tell me what the nerves were for?”
Yes. No. Maybe.
“Why don’t you guys go outside and talk? The weather is perfect.”
Daddy T took my hand and nodded at Mitchell who’d made the suggestion as we passed him on our way outside.
“Look, Daddy T,” I squealed, “Nallie Bear has her own sprinkler!” I giggled as she hopped up and down on a paddle that made the water squirt up. These new dog toys were amazing, and she was having so much fun barking at the water and trying to eat it.
“She’s having a great time. What a fantastic idea.” I heard Daddy T pull out a chair as it slid across the concrete, but I was afraid to turn around ‘cause then we’d have to talk. “Jamie, why don’t come over here and tell me what’s got you so confused.”
Sigh. Okay, Jamie, it’s time to talk. A quick glance at the empty chair beside him then at Daddy T and the decision was made that his lap would be comfier.
Dramatic sighs were the best I could do while I decided what to say. With my head buried against his chest, it was safe enough to speak. “I heard what you and Jamie’s Daddies were talking about.”
Daddy T wrapped his arms around my waist. “What were we talking about, dear boy?”
“Me. I think. At least I hope it was me. Unless you have another boy?” If he said it was another boy, I’d run far away.
“Yes, sweetheart. We were talking about you and no, there’s no other boy.” He gave me a squeeze and I lay my head on his shoulder, feeling a story was coming on. “I’ve had boys before, Littles even, but the last one I had was about a year ago. He wasn’t a true Little like you, he wanted more of a Daddy/boy relationship. His name was Dougie and we just kind of grew apart. One day when I got home from work, he was gone. Moved out and found another Daddy.”
“Oh.” That explained why he wore a sad Daddy face so much. Or did, because he smiled a lot more lately. At least when I saw him.
“I’m just…” He paused and took a deep breath. “I really like you, Jamie.”
Great, here it comes. But you’re too needy and you talk too much. My bottom lip quivered. I was seconds away from crying.
“Please, sweet boy, don’t be sad. Ugh, I’m screwing this up.”
I wanted to run away. Another Daddy was saying goodbye and this one I really liked.
“Fuck, I can’t do this.”
I didn’t bother to point out he said a naughty word, wasn’t worth it and besides, it didn’t matter. He wasn’t my Daddy.
“You’ll tell me if I screw this up? Yes, I’m the Daddy and you’re the boy, but Daddies make mistakes, too.” He shook his head. “I really want you to be my boy, Jamie.”
“Um, what?”
“I want to be your Daddy, Jamie. Will you give me a chance?”
Daddies didn’t ask, let alone beg. Especially not the ones I’d known. The tears came and there was nothing I could do to stop them.
“Oh, sweet boy, I didn’t mean to upset you. I’m so sorry, what can I do to fix this?”
“Fix this? There’s nothing to fix. You. Really. Wanna. Be. My. Daddy?” I managed to get out between sobs.
He wiped the tears from my face and tucked my hair behind my ear. “Yes, sweetheart, more than you know.”
When Daddy T pressed his lips to mine, my mind went blank and the kiss ended before I got a chance to enjoy it. But we were at Henry’s house, and this wasn’t the place for naughty stuff.
I bounced up and down, and forgot I was on his lap until he groaned. “Sorry, Daddy T.”
“It’s okay, just didn’t want you to hurt anything… important.”
My hand automatically covered my mouth to hold back the giggles. “Yes, we don’t want that at all, Daddy T.”
