“Rosey, no, I didn’t mean–”

“Shut up!”

I rise to my feet and turn around with my hands raised in surrender, instantly feeling the pressure of the muzzle at my back as she follows closely behind. I reach for the door, pulling it open, and together we step out into the corridor.

“Who did she come with? Did you find out?” she asks Rob and his goon who have resumed standing guard outside the office.

“We didn’t see anyone. She arrived in a cab, and the car left already,” The goon replies.

“Right. Keep your eyes and ears open, dumbass,” she says. “Rob, zip tie her hands behind her back.”

Without missing a beat, Rob retrieves a zip tie from his pocket and swiftly spins me around. He grabs both of my hands and attempts to secure them. Just before he pulls them tight, a burst of machine-gun fire erupts from outside. They’re here!

Rosey’s eyebrows draw together tightly and her face morphs into fierce anger, eyes narrowing into thin slits. “You!”

I pull my wrists free and reach for the gun she’s holding; my fingers wrap possessively around the handle and try to snatch it. She has a firm hold on it; we start to wrestle and fall to the ground.

“Rosey, there’s still time, I can save you! Please, listen to me!” I plead. I’m trying to take sole control of the gun, we both are, but I’m trying to save her too.

“What are you waiting for?! Kill her! KILL HER!” she shrieks as she fights with all her strength to overpower me.

“Um, boss, I can’t. You’re both moving, I could kill you.”

All of a sudden, the gun discharges between us, startling us both. Despite the shock, I refuse to let go. So does Rosey. There’s a thud behind me. I dare not look back, but I can hear Rob swearing.

“You killed someone else, you bitch!” Rosey yells. “Let go of the gun!”

“You’re the one holding the gun! You killed him! Give it to me!”

CHAPTER 15

ORION

We’re descending in the elevator, and I’m boiling with anger. Everybody around me is equally furious. We’re ready to attack the Slavs, our final fight, to kill each and every one that remains, and my face is burning with rage. I swear I’m gonna lock that woman up in a room, never to see the sun again.

“Why the fuck did we trust her, someone tell me?!” I growl.

“We didn’t know she was gonna do this,” Kai protests, as if to absolve us of our stupidity.

“Really? Really, Kai? We didn’t?” I tilt my head at him, waiting for an excuse.

“Okay, we should’ve suspected.” He raises his hands in defeat. “But we thought she’d put all that behind her.”

“Maisy’s one helluva stubborn woman. But she’s our woman,” Logan sighs.

“I’m not sure I want her like this,” I mutter under my breath.

The elevator door opens and the first thing we see is the clock on the wall, showing it’s exactly ten. Everyone has congregated in the reception hall. Our plan is clear: penetrate the Slav headquarters, kill as many people as possible. That’s it. That’s all they need to know, anyway. Of course, there is another plan for us – one where we find the gun Maisy killed Natash with. And now, we have to find Maisy too, and make sure they don’t kill her.

“God, she annoys the hell out of me!” I hiss under my breath.

The Cartes and Delgados have already arrived, and are parked outside waiting for us.

“Are you all ready?” Logan asks Uncle Jon.

Uncle Jon looks at his men standing behind him. “Ready as we’ll ever be.”

We all leave the tower at the same time. The Vitalis go to their cars, the Delgados and Cartes are revving up their engines, and Emilio’s car’s running, ready. He too wears a balaclava.
