“Second floor,” he mouths.

“She’s alone?”

“No one else has been in there.” He shows me the key. “Room 2034.”

I feel the tension rise as we wait for the elevator door to open. When it does, we enter and I press the button for the second floor, exchanging a quick, silent glance with Logan, one that no doubt speaks volumes about my nerves.

The door slides open on the second floor and we move cautiously along the hallway, trying to be as stealthy as possible.

Both of us are alert, ears straining for any sound that might indicate someone’s presence or any hint of trouble. I lead the way, my hand lightly resting on the handle of my Colt.

Once we reach room 2034, we pause outside the door, looking at each other and exchanging a final nod of readiness. I place a finger to my lips and carefully slide the card into the slot, hoping to trigger the mechanism quietly. We hold our breath, waiting to see if we’ll be able to enter without drawing any attention.

The moment the light on the lock turns green, we enter the room like cats. We see her lying on the bed, with her back to us. By protocol, we clear every corner of the apartment first before we both turn to the bed. She must be sleeping because she doesn’t react to us at all.

We don’t move, just watch her. It’s like being under a spell. How come she can do this to me, to us? I always wondered what sort of power she has to make my cock twitch and ache for her every time I’m in her vicinity.

She’s still in the same dress as last night, lying on her side, her legs bent at the knees, her eyes shut. She’s wearing her sneakers on her feet instead of her boots from last night.

“Psst, Maisy,” Logan says softly.

He’s already forgotten what she put us through. Fucking Slavs. They ruined everything. And Maisy, she’s so… Why does the word ‘innocent’ come to mind? Argh. I’m so stupid.

I nudge her shoulder harshly with the butt of my gun. “Wake up.”

Her eyelids flutter open, and upon seeing us, she gasps in shock.

“Logan! Orion!” She sits up, terrified, pleading. “I-I didn’t want to leave, I’m so sorry…”

Logan touches her gently, like he doesn’t want to startle her. “Come on, you’re coming with us.”

“And Kai? He’ll be here any minute.”

Kai is a hothead that I don’t need right now. If Logan’s hitman tries anything, Logan and I have it covered. We’re taking Maisy to my house, and will get our families to protect us. Kai has too much of a short fuse for this kind of protection right at this moment.

“We can’t wait for him.” I look at Logan. “We don’t know what his intentions are.”

“You’re right. If Maisy’s with us, he’ll come to us,” Logan agrees.

“Correct.”

I grab Maisy by the upper arm and push her in front of me toward the door. I want to be anything but gentle, or soft, because the mere fact that I’m touching her thaws my anger toward her.

She whimpers as she walks and I’m quick to loosen my grip. I don’t want to hurt her. True, I wish I could kill her, but I definitely don’t want to hurt her.

“Why are you taking me away? Are you gonna kill me?”

There isn’t panic in her voice, but boldness. I should put her across my knee and spank her ass until it’s red.

“We should’ve done that a long time ago. Now, there’s no point,” I retort.

Kai’s location still shows him behind the hotel, so we leave the same way we came in. Martin is doing a good job of keeping him busy.

We move quickly but carefully out of the hotel, making sure not to attract too much attention. Maisy is between us; we keep close to her, one of us on either side, guiding her through the hallway toward the exit.

The air feels tense as we reach the main doors. I glance outside, spotting Emilio already waiting by the car, engine humming.

As we approach, he catches my eye, giving a subtle nod to confirm he’s ready to go as soon as we’re all in. Logan opens the rear door while I help Maisy inside, making sure she’s seated. I slip into the seat beside her, and Logan closes the door with a soft thud.
