The gentle climax shook me deeply, going through me in waves, and I moaned as he continued to stroke, slow, steady, like we had all the time in the world.

Later, I leaned against him, drifting, my eyes closed, my ear pressed against his chest, listening to the beat of his heart.

“What did you go back for?” he asked.

His voice came out suddenly, piercing through the darkness and I paused for a moment and then looked up at him. I didn’t want to leave the warmth of his arms, but I did, reached for the jeans that lay on the floor. I grabbed the small plastic bag from my pocket and then opened it and dropped the item in my hand.

Vincent looked down, and I knew he instantly recognized what I held.

It was the ring he had given me all those years ago, one I had never been able to let go of.

“I would never leave it behind,” I said.

Vincent didn’t speak, but after a breath, he pulled me close.
