“You cleaned up for more than drinks with a friend as well,” I say, turning my face to meet his eyes.

“I have to come through with my best when it comes to you. Look how good you look. You deserve nothing but the best on your arm,” he breathes.

His eyes drop to my lips. I tug the bottom one between my teeth. He leans in but I turn quickly and pull from his lap.

“We go to your place and there will be no sex,” I warn.

His face softens. “If you’re there, I’m already in bliss.”

“Whatever, Knight.” I grin. “I’m going to the bathroom and then we can head out.”

He nods and I head to the restroom. I can’t stop the smile on my face as I go. I guess I’m not too late. Now I need to figure out what I’m going to do.

I don’t want to just jump into bed. My feelings for Knight are way deeper than a roll in his sheets. My issues with him are not just going to go away. He loves his career, and I fear it.

I’m still musing in my head as I walk out of the bathroom into the hallway that leads back to the bar. I go to make my way to Knight, but someone grabs my arm to halt me. I turn to find one of the guys who had been trying to get my attention most of the night.

I look down at his offending arm. “Can you please release me?”

“Hold on, I wanted to talk to you for a second.”

“Nah, you’re going to want to get your hand off of her.” I look up to find Knight at the mouth of the hallway.

Big guy looks away from me to Knight. He snorts, but let’s go. I take a step away from him.

“This your man or something?” the big guy asks.

“Come here, baby,” Knight coos softly.

I snap out of my shock and move to Knight’s side. He wraps an arm around my waist and kisses the top of my head. I sag into him in relief.

“Does that answer your question, Bro?”

“Whatever. She’s stuck up anyway,” he mutters as he pushes past us.

Knight goes to follow him, but I place my hands on his chest to stop him. He looks down at me, and I can see the rage in his eyes. However, when he focuses on me, he calms slightly.

“Your place, right?”

He nods and leads me out by my hand. I tighten my hold on his when he looks over to the group of guys glaring at us. Knight tugs me into his side and places his hand on my ass, nodding toward the guy from the hall and his friends.

“Really?”

“Fuck them,” he grunts.

I bite my lip. This isn’t the Knight I know, but he’s sort of hot like this too.

CHAPTER 24

I Can’t

Reminisce

When my mother called me over for tea this weekend, I didn’t think she was going to blindside me with Tessa Moran, Knight’s mother. Tessa knows Knight and I had something going on a while back. I met his parents once.

It was the first time we were a thing. I think for Knight, things were getting serious. The lines had definitely blurred. I was grateful to both Tessa and Fred for not blasting us when our families first came together.

I was already in shock when I realized who Bishop was. Seeing Knight in Saga’s new home almost brought me to my knees. However, Tessa and Fred were cool about it and didn’t out us.
