I bite my tongue to keep from confirming his words. He’s right though. If I’m honest with myself, I’ve been happier than I’ve been in a long time.

“What’s going on in here? You planning on taking a bath?” he asks before I have a chance to reply.

“We are taking a bath. I want to relax and chill with you,” I purr.

“Sounds good. Looks like I came home right on time.”

“I have some Sushi for dinner. You want to eat first?”

“Food can wait,” he says as he turns me around and takes my lips.

I wrap my arms around his neck and get lost in his kiss. For the first time all day, I finally feel complete. Fear begins to creep in, but I push it down quickly.

Instead, I get lost in him and his touch. He deepens the kiss as he reaches beneath my shirt and palms the bare skin of my back. A deep groan leaves his lips, and he tightens his hold as if I’ll float away or slip from his grasp.

“I’ve wanted to do that all day,” he says as he pulls back and presses his forehead to mine.

“Why stop?” I say as I palm the side of his handsome face.

He grins and leans in to take my lips again. I reach for his T-shirt and pull it over his head, dropping it to the floor. He pushes my shorts down, allowing them to fall to my feet.

Reaching for his belt, I release it and unzip his jeans. Before I can push his pants off, he lifts me onto his waist and peels my tank top from my body. His lips are on my neck before my top can float down to the floor from his fingertips.

I moan and drop my head back as he licks and nips at my skin then takes my lips again. Not bothering to break the kiss, he moves over to the bath and dips to stick his hand in the water to check the temperature. I just finished filling the tub, so it should be just right.

He straightens, then steps into the water with me still in his hold. When he settles into the water, I staddle him and palm his face, kissing his lips repeatedly. He tangles his fingers in my hair that I’ve left out.

Before we get too carried away, I pull away and turn to sit between his legs. He immediately wraps his arms around me and buries his face into the crook of my neck and shoulder. I reach for the remote to the sound system and change the song.

Jaheim’s “Find My Way Back” begins to pour from the speakers. I close my eyes and melt into Knight. A smile comes to my lips as he begins to sing the lyrics in my ear.

I played it enough for him to know the song well. It was on one of my playlists when we first became a thing.

“Rem, you’re not the only one who’s happy,” he murmurs suddenly.

I look over my shoulder and lock eyes with him. He looks down into my eyes, searching. I can’t allow him to say the words swimming in his eyes, so I lean in to kiss him instead.

Not tonight. Tonight I want to stay in this bubble. I want to feel him and this comfort we’ve built.

That’s all I can handle for now. I want him to be my peace, and I want to be his. The rest can stay out there with the world.

CHAPTER 15

Chill Time

Reminisce

I stare over my wine glass, watching Knight with his head bent as he rubs my foot. His long strong fingers are working their magic in the best possible way tonight.

We have music playing as we sit in his living room chilling for the evening. I spent the day on my feet in court, and they’re killing me. I need this foot rub like I need air.

“This is nice,” I moan and take a sip of my wine.

Knight looks up through his curtains of hair and smiles. I bite my lip. This man is so damn gorgeous. It’s no wonder he’s like a drug to me.

His smile lights up his entire face. I find myself daydreaming about those eyes and his sexy lips. If only I could make a copy of him who’s safe.

“It is,” he murmurs. “We’re still on for the vineyards this weekend, right?”
