“Why?”
“Your brother is married to my sister. That’s why.”
I roll my eyes and place my arms beneath my head. I’m getting tired of hearing that one. She’s making it seem like we weren’t a thing before Saga and Bishop.
Four years ago, my brother didn’t know Saga existed. That shouldn’t be a reason for us not to be together. We’re in-laws, not real siblings. Heck, I’d be more willing to go with her reasoning if we were stepsiblings. My brother and her sister being married shouldn’t get in the way of what I want us to have.
“Be honest. If you took me home, do you think that would be a problem?”
“Knight, haven’t we done this before,” she huffs.
“Things have changed. I want your honest answer now.”
She sighs heavily. “Like I said before, Daddy has a certain type he wanted me and Saga to marry. No, I don’t think you’re that type.”
“Because I’m white?”
“You’re putting words in my mouth. Let’s find something to watch. I was getting into a vibe,” she says changing the subject.
I let it slide because I don’t want to fight with her. We were having a nice time before that question. I reach for the remote and turn the TV on.
“Would you want to have kids as soon as Saga and Bishop did? Or are you thinking about waiting?” I blurt the words out before I can think better of them.
“I’d have to find someone to have kids with, but I don’t want to wait too long. I think I’m ready to be a mom. I wouldn’t mind starting right away,” she says.
My heart and my cock swell. I want to be the one to give her those babies. I should be the one to give her that.
I stop asking questions because I’m getting upset that she’s placing that wall between us. I know it will take time to make it crumble, so I call on my patience. All she needs is to see I can be everything she wants.
I think of our past and why she’s like this. I regret the way we came together, but I will never regret coming together. If I could erase her fears, I would.
“Oh, that looks good, let’s watch that,” she calls breaking into my thoughts as I flip through titles.
I nod and click on the show she’s talking about. Then, I move to sit on the couch beside her. All my frustration fades away as she leans her head on my chest and snuggles in closer to me.
I’ve been patient all these years. I can do it for a little longer. Rem has no idea how long I’ve been crazy about her. I’m in this for the long game.
CHAPTER 12
Friends
Knight
I finish my business and move to the sink to wash my hands. Jamel comes up beside me to wash his as well. We both had to use the rest room when we arrived at the restaurant with Sunny and Rem. I was pleasantly surprised when Rem said we would be going on a double date.
This is new. Maybe I’m getting through this time. I’m not going to ignore the fact that Rem’s biggest trigger hasn’t been a factor.
I just may have to stand on my word if I want this to continue to work. Can I stand leaving the force for good? I note the thought doesn’t pain me as much as I thought it would.
“Reminisce is looking good tonight. I don’t ever think I’ve seen her smile so much,” Jamel says before I can dive any deeper into my thoughts.
She does look great. The shoulder length hairstyle she’s wearing accents her face with its loose flirty waves. She’s wearing this sexy top that cuffs around her neck and crisscrosses across her chest. It then tappers down her torso. The matching black slacks ride low on her waist and complement her ass and hips. The pants cover her sexy shoes, but I saw the fuck me heels before we left her place.
Those stilettos are killer. I can’t wait to have them wrapped around my neck and then my waist later on tonight. I wonder if I can talk her into bathroom sex before we leave here. I glance around me.
This place is really clean, I might be able to pull it off. “Yeah, things have been good so far. I don’t want to jinx it,” I reply.
“What’s that all about? She seems into you. Sunny says you two knew each other before your brother got married. If she’s the same one you’ve been hooking up with all this time, what gives?”
