“Yes. One of my brothers has a driver. One of these days, I’m going to hire one too. But Cal is available for the entire family.”
I’d do anything to make her comfortable. I should have laid out that option before, because I was 100 percent serious. The last thing I wanted was for her to feel pressured.
She licked her lips, lowering her eyes to the plate. I drew in a deep breath, looking away. I was so damn attracted to her—it was all-consuming.
"I don't want to go back to Essex tonight. I want to stay with you."
Fuck yes.
We ate the last course much faster and ended up taking an Uber to my home rather than calling Cal. We left her car in the parking lot of the restaurant and would pick it up tomorrow.
Cami kept looking out the window during the drive.
"This neighborhood is exquisite," she said when we were a few streets away from my house.
"You haven't been here before?"
She turned to face me and shrugged. "I rarely come to Boston. I’ve always wanted to explore it with a local—or at least someone who knows it well." When the car slowed down, she pointed at the house. "This is you?"
I nodded.
Her face immediately lit up. "Wow."
"Wait, let me open the door. The road here is slipperier than it should be. Too many puddles."
She nodded. "Thank you."
I opened her door and held her hand as she stepped out of the Uber. As we walked to the house, I put my arm around her lower back, squeezing her to me.
"Mmm, your arm is keeping me warm and helping me with my balance. Such a keeper," she whispered more to herself than to me.
I frowned, focusing on our steps. I'd never considered myself a keeper. Then again, I'd never done any of the things I was doing with Cami.
Once we were inside, she glanced around.
"This is the new house Leo found for you?"
"No, he's yet to find a new one."
She puckered in her lips. "You want to move from this palace?"
I nodded. "Yeah."
"Can't imagine why. It's wonderful. All this open space and the windows. I bet you have so much light here during the day."
"You’re right," I said.
There was a huge open space downstairs that comprised the living room, dining room, and the bar. The kitchen was the smallest part, just an island and the major appliances. She looked stunning in my living room. Cami simply fit in here.
"You want an after-dinner drink, something to help digest your food?" I asked her.
"I don't think I need it," she replied. "Where can I put my coat?"
"Here, let me take it from you."
I stood in front of her, undoing the belt and then the two buttons that held it together.
"You look so damn amazing tonight."
