“Are you feeling up to doing some shopping today?”

My mouth is dry, making it hard to swallow around the rocks that seem to have formed in my esophagus. “I do need clothing and other necessities.”

He’s seriously attractive, but we barely know each other.

Why couldn’t my system allow me to remember that last night when I was attacking him?

“I will provide everything you need from here on out.” His aqua gaze meets mine. “I think it would be best if I send a team to retrieve your belongings in Chicago. I’ll hire professional movers who will treat your things with the utmost care.”

I might be half awake, but… “What?”

“I can’t imagine you’ll be fine leaving all your things behind, but if you’d like to start fresh, I support that decision completely.”

I move to sit up, and my hands come to rest on his flat stomach. It makes me a tiny bit self-conscious because it’s daylight, and I definitely don’t have a flat tummy. I’m kinda pear-shaped. Smaller on top, but thicker the farther down we move.

“I’m eventually going to have to go home,” I say, wrapping a forearm around the pooch of lower stomach that seems especially puffy this morning. Apparently, it only takes comparing my soft frame to a Greek god of a man before the self-confidence issues come out in full force.

“I prefer having more space than Chicago can provide,” Ranger says, pulling my arm away from my abdomen. “Are you feeling crampy again?”

“No.” I glance away as his palm lands on my lower stomach.

“I was able to satiate your needs.” He sounds a little feral. “I did, didn’t I?”

The next thing I know, he’s rolling us, and I’m gazing up at him.

I smile at the hopeful look on his face. “You did. I’m a little surprised your knot hasn’t gone down yet.”

“I may have had an additional few orgasms since you fell asleep.”

An unexpected bubble of laughter bursts out.

He really is cute…

Only, it’s morning, which means it’s time to take my all-in-one suppressant and birth control.

Reality catches up so fast.

“Ohmigod,” I hiss, shoving at his shoulder. It forces his knot to drag inside me, and we both groan.

“We’re still locked together. What’s the matter?” he asks, studying my face.

My stomach drops. Everything happened so fast. There was no time to think through the consequences. “My suppressants include my birth control, but I haven’t had them in however many days it’s been. Also, the suppressants were failing to work with my system for a while before I was even kidnapped.”

“That is intriguing,” he says, sliding a hand between us…to rub my stomach.

Why, exactly, is he doing that?

“I was supposed to get a callback from the doctor with a new prescription for birth control, since she refused to refill my suppressants.” I push up, using my forearms. “Holy shit! When was the last time you got tested? There are so many things we didn’t talk about.”

“You have nothing to worry about,” he says calmly. The look on my face must tell him I disagree. “I am tested regularly as a caveat of my job. It’s a necessity, since I tend to come into contact with bodily fluids.” My eyes narrow. “Blood, brain matter, the tears of my enemies.”

I try to hold back the laugh, but he’s adorable sometimes. “I got tested after I found out my boyfriend was cheating on me.”

“What about Tanner?”

“We didn’t have sex. I mean, we did some other stuff?—”

His head tilts as he studies me. “Truly?”
