He’d just never seen that look on Felix’s face before.
But could Jonah really be sure that was what he was seeing? What if there was even the tiniest, slimmest chance that he was wrong? What if he was seeing what he wanted to see?
“Jonah?” Felix nudged him.
“Huh?” He blinked.
Matty shot him an amused look. “Dude, you better get that head in gear for the game tonight.”
“No, I’m on it,” Jonah promised. He’d get it together tonight if it killed him. “What were you saying?”
Felix tilted his head toward the elevator door he held open. “You coming up to the room?”
“Ye-ess?” Jonah stuttered. Shit. He’d lost his chance to ask Felix if he could have like twenty minutes alone before they took their pregame nap.
Oh well. It wouldn’t kill him to play a game feeling a little horny, right? Some guys swore by it. He’d just never been one of them.
Somehow, Jonah made it through getting up to the room and stripping down to his boxer briefs and into the bed but the moment Felix settled on the mattress beside him, he tensed.
“Hey, everything okay?” Felix asked.
“Just feeling a little tightly wound,” Jonah admitted. Maybe he should hop in the shower and jerk off.
It would still be a little weird but less weird than asking Felix to leave or just reaching down and trying to do it quietly under the covers.
Right?
“Even after visiting the gardens?” Felix teased.
Jonah smiled. “Yeah. A bit.” The gardens had relaxed him but he’d been hyperaware of everything he and Felix did together in a way he’d never been before.
He wondered if anyone had taken pictures of them. If this would end up on the gossip pages.
Which, so what if it did? That was what they wanted, wasn’t it? The press release was out and surely JockGossip had already written something about them. He just hadn’t wanted to read it.
It felt strange when Jonah had tried so hard for so long to hide every one of his non-platonic feelings for his best friend.
“I guess some of what’s making me nervous is that this is public now,” Jonah admitted.
“What is? Oh, our engagement?”
Felix looked down at his left hand and Jonah’s heart clenched to see Grandpa Cho’s ring on Felix’s finger. It looked so right there.
“Yeah.” Jonah glanced away.
“Hey, do you want me to get you a ring?”
“Uhh.” Jonah looked over again, blinking at Felix. “An engagement ring?”
Felix shrugged. “Yeah. It feels weird that it’s one-sided. I don’t have any sentimental family heirlooms but I know I could pick something out that you’d like.”
Absolutely fucking not. Jonah would never survive it. If Felix picked out a ring for him and it didn’t mean what Jonah wanted it to mean, if it was fake instead of real, then it would break Jonah’s heart when he had to give it back.
“Honestly, I’d rather have plants,” he said instead of getting into that whole mess.
Felix laughed, his expression so filled with affection that Jonah had to stifle a gasp. When had any man he’d dated looked at him like that?
“I should have known! And if we were actually engaged, you know I’d buy you so many plants.” Felix’s eyes sparkled.
