Page 175 of The Betrayal

Wolfe is on top of me, hand over my mouth as I scream out. I am ready to fight, I needed to make sure he did nothing to hurt the twins.

“Now, now little Vixen, I need you to be quiet.” He smiles down at me, and my stomach rolls with nausea.

It's now or never.

Fight or flight mode.

If I let this moment pass, I’ll be dead within a matter of hours. There is no way I will survive if he cuts the babies out of me.

I gently loosen my left hand out of my restraint, then use my fingers to slide the scalpel out of my gown.

Wolfe unbuckles his pants and I heave against his hand. He is rough and unforgiving. He has humiliated me and broken me in ways he never should, but I am still breathing. And that's all that matters for now.

I don't care that I am starving, no doubt dehydrated, I just needed to end this once and for all.

Keaton and my dad are coming for me, I know they are. Sage promised me that much and that's what has kept me going.

“Don't fight me, you'll lose every fucking time,” his fingers wrap around my throat as he begins to squeeze the life out of me. I try and gasp, my eyes widening as his fingers tighten.

And that's when I make my move.

My eyes lift at the corners as I smile behind his hand and I catch him off guard as he looks down at me, brows furrowed and I swing my arm up, stabbing the scalpel into his neck and slicing through his carotid artery.

His eyes widen, his hand slipping from my throat, and I gasp for breath, burning my lungs. I watch as he tries to stop the bleeding from his throat, but he can't. I watch as the life slowly drains from his dark and evil brown eyes, the death rattle loud as the last ounce of breath escapes before he collapses on top of me and all I do is lay, still.

Frozen almost.

I'm a doctor. I know how much blood pumps round the human body, but until you physically see a body drained of every ounce of it, you just can't quite comprehend those numbers.

Wolfe bled out pretty quick and once the realization hits me, I freak. With the last ounce of strength I have, I shove his corpse off me and hear as it hits the tiled floor. I fall off the bed, knees hitting the floor and I shove his body away from me, his blood leaving a trail. I pat him down, and find a gun slipped in the inside of his suit jacket. I have no idea who is in here and I don’t want to not be prepared. I grab the gun, then wipe the hair out of my face. I let my head fall back and close my eyes, I have never believed in God, but at this moment, I am doing nothing but throwing prayers his way.

Bracing myself for what is about to come.

But what I expected was not what I got.

No.

The door opens slowly, and I fire the gun.

My body stiffens when it opens fully, and there in front of me, eyes wide and jaws laxed are Keaton, my dad and Xavier. My dad shouts out as the bullet hits his shoulder and I throw the gun in shock.

“Who would have thought it aye?” Xavier rumbles and side eyes Titus, “Even your daughter knew to make sure he was dead.”

My dad groans, “Fuck off,” as he covers his bleeding shoulder. And I am hoping it's only a flesh wound.

“Arizona,” Keaton chokes as he runs towards me, scooping me up on my trembling legs and as soon as I am in his arms, everything goes black.

CHAPTER SIXTY-NINE

KEATON

Why is she still asleep?” Worry consumes me as I look at Arizona. She looks nothing like my Blossom. She is bruised, bloody and malnourished.

“She has been through a lot. She has been starved and is severely dehydrated. Her cheek bone is broken, and her wrists are bruised and cut from being tied.” The doctor sits down beside me, I can see the worry on her face. I turn to look at Arizona. She looks so small without her baby bump.

“I drew some blood and gave her an internal examination...” she pauses, and my eyes graze across to hers. She doesn't have to say what she found. I can tell by the look on her face.

Anger boils deep inside of me, fists balled to my side.
