“Oh, she talked.” He looks right at me. “But not about Dom.”
Not wanting to reignite that conversation, I turn to Genevieve. “Any of that wine left?”
“Oh, yes, absolutely. Help yourself, Laken.” She smiles, sliding the bottle across the table. “It’s a little more dry than the last one you said you weren’t a fan of. But it’s worth a try.” She smiles again. Her lessons continue, teaching me how to appreciate the finer details of wine.
“Thanks.” I pour a small glass just to sample it. “Did you hear anything from your dad?”
Gen sighs, heaviness in her heart. “No, not really. He’s demanding that I come home. He doesn’t know exactly where I am, but he knows I’m in Alaska. They gave up the search, and now that he’s back in Georgia, I know he’ll have resources to find me.”
Especially now that her name is linked to the hospital here.
“Do you want him to find you?” Bass asks.
“I’m not a hateful person, Bastian,” she says, using his full name. “I don’t want to cut myself off entirely from my family, but until they can respect me as a person, I’m not interested in a close relationship with them.”
Knowing her father, even just a little, I know he’ll be back to stir shit up for Gen. I look around the table, seeing the determined protectiveness from all the Dare boys. She’s got a whole damn family at her back, and I know she’s going to be okay.
“But in better news, I have my very first full shift at the hospital tomorrow! It’s just a shift in the ER so I can get the feel of it.”
“What? Congrats!” I clink my glass against hers. She’s a family doctor, but she decided to take a few shifts to help out in the emergency room, and judging by the bright flush and the smile on her face, she’s pretty pumped about it.
Of course, this sets off a fresh round of banter. Congrats are given, but Four is roasted for having a girlfriend who is more badass than him. He takes it with pride, and the filthy looks he shoots at Gen are suggestive as fuck.
“Not on a work night, Forsyth!” Gen gasps.
Fuck, I love her.
Chapter 11
The whole drive home from the airport, I wondered what I’d do when I saw Kade. I mean, I don’t think I’m jealous, but I’m a nosy asshole and want details. Will he be in bed with her? Will they still be fucking around together? Did he even do anything to get her off and distract her?
My worries drop away when I walk in the front door to see Kade sitting around with a few of our brothers. I don’t care what he did with her as long as she’s feeling better. My stress shifts to Dom. These idiots are all still up because they’re worried about him, and when I flop down on the couch, I feel the same way. It isn’t like Dom to be evasive, so we speculate for a bit, and then I drain my glass.
“She relax a bit?” I ask Kade.
“Yeah.” He doesn’t elaborate, and maybe that’s for the better. For right now, anyway.
My mouth has other plans. “You fuck her?”
He looks at me, a cocky gleam in his eyes that pisses me off. “No.” Kade runs a hand through his hair. “Wanted to. You put me in a shitty spot there, asshole.”
Get used to it, bud. “I’m going to check on her.”
“Keep your dick in your pants, Jed. She needs sleep.” Kade punches me in the thigh when I stand up.
Yeah, I’ll try. Probably not going to happen.
She’s passed out in my bed, so I try to be quiet when I slip in behind her. I can’t really help that my dick is hard, but I wrap my arms around her and pull her in tight. She shifts, making sounds of annoyance that make me grin.
“You up, love?”
“Mhm,” she hums, grinding her ass against my boner.
“Didn’t Kade finish what I started?” My hand slides around her waist and between her legs, teasing her clit.
“He did,” she says, rocking against my touch. “I’m guessing you’re going to double finish it?”
“Is that what you want?” I kiss her neck.
