“What? Why?”

“Fuck if I know. But they come over, grab mats, and set up for class.”

“Did he know you were going to be teaching?”

I shake my head. “No way. When he saw me, I thought he might bolt. But he didn’t. They stayed for the whole class. I taught the most punishing class ever.” I pause to laugh at the memory of those two strong guys struggling to keep up with my Pilates ladies.

“But that was hours ago. The story isn’t over?”

I shake my head. “Not even close. So, after class they bail without saying anything, but then as I head into the private bathroom between the two locker rooms, Ben’s right behind me, pushing me in and locking the door behind us.”

“No.”

I’m blowing her mind, and it’s so fun.

“Yup. He’s all, I thought you weren’t an employee, and I’m all, I’m a contract worker so technically, I’m not? And then he fucked the literal brains out of me right there in the bathroom. At one point, I was like, do you want me to fight you, because I’m crazy or something, and he’s like if you want, and so it turned into this whole thing where we pretended he was forcing himself on me like in a movie or something.”

“What the actual hell? Are you for real right now?”

“I couldn't make this shit up.”

Sally shakes her head, looking a bit ill. “If I could kill you and put your skin on my body, so I could have one night like that, I would do it.”

I nod in solemn agreement. “I know.”

Sally gets to her feet and shakes her whole body. Then she turns to me, hands on hips. “But you’re leaving out, like, the most important part of this whole thing.”

I grimace. “I know.”

“This man is not just some random guy. He’s your ex’s dad. So, fucking him is never going to be simple. As a matter of fact, you should give him to me.”

I laugh and shake my head. “He’s not mine to give. And really, if we’re getting all technical, was Ainsley ever really my anything? I mean, he made it pretty clear that we were just casual. Because of the whole, I’m not ready for a relationship thing all guys do.”

“I mean, yes. I get that. But regardless of what that shithead said, you two were something. I mean, you moved here together from Bali.”

“Well, he was coming here anyway and suggested that it could be a good place to get a job teaching. Which it was. My job is amazing. Even if it’s not a permanent gig. So, I wouldn’t say that we really moved here together. We just both moved here at the same time, from the same place.”

“And spent every night together.”

“Yeah, for like two months, until he disappeared last week and showed up on Instagram with some other chick.”

“Yeah, that wasn’t great.”

“I think that’s the nail in the coffin of any attempt to call what we had a relationship.”

“What would his dad say about that?”

“Ugh. Stop. Can’t you just let me enjoy this?”

“I mean, obviously I want you to enjoy it. But it’s just not really like you to throw caution to the wind like this. I mean, how long do you think you can keep this a secret? What if Ainsley comes back and sees you together?”

“That’s not going to happen.”

She looks unconvinced.

“Ben doesn’t live here. He lives in New York. He’s only here because Ainsley was here. Remember Ains complaining that his dad was flying in to give him a hard time about not going back to college this month? That’s why he bailed. He’s not coming back as long as his dad’s here. And, the reason Ben came is gone, so it’s only a matter of time before he leaves too.”

“And you want to get as much dick as you can before that happens.”
