"See? David didn't turn out so bad, did he?"
"Don't want you saying that asshole's name either," he muttered, squeezing me tighter.
I couldn't help but laugh. "Fine."
Scythe was sitting with Sean outside, waiting for us to wrap things up with David after Sean gave his official statement. I went over and wrapped Sean up in a hug. As soon as I got home and had Static, Sean, and Grace all in one spot, I knew everything would click into place. I needed my family surrounding me.
"Let's go home," Static said.
"It's like you read my mind," I told him.
He wrapped an arm around my shoulders and helped me into the cage ride that Scythe had taken us to the hospital in. Sean got in the other side and we sat together in silence during the drive. It had been a crazy day for us both. I was sure there would be fallout from this, for both of us, but we'd deal with it. And this time I knew I had the strength not to fall apart. I was going to face this head on, with my family.
CHAPTER 38
Gwen
Yawning, I woke the next morning, wrapped up in Static's arms. I snuggled back into him with a sleepy smile.
"Don't start something you're not willing to finish, Sugar."
"Who says I'm not," I teased.
"You need more rest."
Turning in his arms, I stared up at him. "I'm okay."
"Tell that to your face," he replied. He lifted his hand, being as gentle as possible, he brushed his fingers over the giant bruise on my jaw. It covered most of my chin where I'd hit the ground. "Do you need some painkillers?"
"No. I need my biker," I told him. I cupped his cheek in my palm.
"I thought I was going to fucking lose you yesterday," he admitted, his voice hoarse with repressed emotion.
"You might have if you hadn't come for me," I whispered.
He pulled me close, burying his face in my hair.
I let him hold me for a few minutes before I started squirming.
"Maybe this will convince you to keep resting," he muttered. He leaned over me as he stretched, reaching into my nightstand for something. When he settled back down he held something in front of my face.
My eyes widened and darted to his. The little velvet box in his hand could be only one thing. "Are you serious?" I breathed.
He grinned and sat up, pulling me up with him so we were sitting across from each other. "Did you know I was married once before?"
I gave him a sheepish smile. "Yeah. Kit told me." Even though Static was relatively new to the club, Kit knew quite a bit about him. She was good at digging information out of the guys.
"It didn't end well," he explained. "When she left me, I promised myself I wasn't ever getting married again." He scoffed. "That was a fucking stupid promise. And one I'm happy to break now." He smiled at me and flipped the box open.
My gasp was loud in the quiet room. A giant diamond sat on top of a delicate gold band. The lack of smaller diamonds surrounding it made the square rock in the middle seem even bigger. "That's huge," I whispered. Looking up at him, I shook my head. "It must have been so expensive. I don't need anything so-"
He set two fingers on my lips, silencing me. "You deserve a gorgeous ring." He tilted his head. "I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but I'm loaded."
I laughed and my heart melted. "Your Jaguar kind of gave that away. And your suits," I added. "I love it."
"Are you going to let me ask now?" he requested.
Shifting on the bed with excitement, I nodded. "Go ahead."
